    Large caliber bolt action rifles

Any recommendations for nice large caliber (30-06 and such) bolt action rifles? Purpose is pride of onwership and target shooting. (Fun!)

Lol, I thought this was going to be another .375 H&H and up thread, bummer.

My recommendation is still the same, look at the CZ rifles. They are sweet. Well made, Mauser actions, awesome triggers and decent priced.

Marlin makes a nice bolt gun This is a working rifle  not a show piece  30/06  25 /06  270  and I can't remember the other caliber. One hit shop Thu afternoon was out Sat morn. Less than $300 here any way.  Scope and mounts  should stay under 400 total.

Re: Large caliber bolt action rifles

I own two Ruger M-77's, one in .270, the other in 25-06.  Both are tack drivers, had the 270 since 1978 and the 25-06 since 1996.  It would be hard for me to want to buy any other bolt action rifle, although I'm sure other bolts are just a good.  They have integrated scope rings, a great finish, and a tight bolt.  You'll have to look pretty hard to find a good used one for $400, doubt if you can.  Most owners won't get rid of them.

How much are you willing to spend???  The Thompson Center Icon rifles look nice!  I have a cheap remington 710 in 30-06 that is very plain but very functional.  Also a Ruger M77 Mark 2 stainless in 338WM that is sweet.

Re: Large caliber bolt action rifles

I managed to get my Ruger stainless 338 at wallyworld for $502 + tax.  They have all gone up so you probably can't have them order one, but some wally marts are clearing out their guns and you can find some really good deals on what they have in stock.  I have seen some weatherby vanguards and leftover winchester M70s pretty cheap.

Browning, weathersby, with deer seasons getting closer id think wally-world wouldn't be having sales.

Some of the wallyworlds around me are closing out their gun inventorys completely.  Can you believe that in NC???

Too bad. And Walmart used to sell hand guns and don't any more. I hope Palin in the white house will increase NRA popularity and help change this trend.

Re: Large caliber bolt action rifles

Though they are new to bolt guns, Mossberg is making a nice gun and quite cheap.

A buddy of mine bought one for his son for deer season, we were out plinking with it, and I was impressed for around $330 it was as smooth and accurate as most rifles twice its price.  It's more accurate than I can shoot (not saying a whole lot there... ) but won't have a problem dropping a deer at 400 yards with a good scope.

However, I still love the Savage 110...  ugly as sin, but a well built durable rifle.  However, will likely run you a couple hundred more.  But, it can swap barrels easily...
