    Lee Marvin Movies

Lee Marvin has not been Mentioned as a Favorite by anyone, probably because he always played a tough guy, but there were others who were always typecast strictly as tough guys.  so, lets see how many Remember him and how many movies you can name, also I think he had a TV series, now don't cheat and google Lee Marvin.

Actually, Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood made a movie together "Paint Your Wagon" a musical.  Eastwood was a soft spoken man through the movie, except for when he and Marvin have a knock down drag out fight over the same woman, and then the woman (Jean Seberg) decides they should share her.  Marvin and Eastwood both had singing parts.  Two actors you would never have thought would be in a musical.

How did you get from Lee Marvin to "Two Mules for Sister Sara"  I don't think Lee Marvin was in that was he?

Stid...... Man Who Shot Liberty Valance was one of his better known Roles, John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart

Cat Ballou with Jane Fonda, Lee Marvin, Stubby Kaye and Nat King Cole was also one of his better known movies, but it is amazing how many he had.

Cat Ballou, that scene with the horse leaning against the wall drunk as Lee Marvin character.  CLASSIC comedy.  Wish they had that in a poster

I'm sorry Jake. If this headache that I have is indicitive of the night that I had, then I shouldn't have been participating on bersatalk last night. I think that I was actually refering to a combo of The Outlaw Josie Wales and Two Mules for Sister Sarah. WTF Anyway, if I had to guess; I was probably thinking of both The Dirty Dozen and Kelley's Heroes which were from the same era, but neither movie starred a combo of Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin. Are you following my logic? ME NEITHER! Big Smile [:D]Beer [B]

    Re: Lee Marvin Movies

I didn't enjoy the movie "Paint Your Wagon" when I first saw it in the theater so much, but I bought the sound track because I realized that Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood in singing parts was going to be a rarity. The more I listened to it the more I enjoyed it, and eventually I bought the movie, too. Clint's singing wasn't too bad. Marvin's singing was kind of ragged and uneven, but he played a ragged character, and it seemed to fit.

The movie itself suffered from other things, such as a lame story line and some lame songwriting, but Eastwood and Marvin gave memorable performances, considering they weren't known as singers.

Besides Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin had those wonderful voices, I'm surprised there singing careers never took off?

    Lee Marvin
Private First Class, United States Marine Corps
    Movie Actor
    New York State Flag
Lee Marvin was born on February 19, 1924, he served with the Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific and was awarded a Purple Heart for a wound that he received there.

On his return, he became a movie actor and starred in a number of motion pictures until his death in Arizona on August 29, 1987.

He is buried in Section 7-A of Arlington National Cemetery, not far from the Memorial Amphitheater and the Tomb of the Unknowns.

We  can't say for sure whether actor Lee Marvin ever related something like the story described to Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show (Marvin was a guest on the show seven times during Carson's tenure as host), but the details of the anecdote are undeniably false.

Lee Marvin did enlist in the U.S. Marines, saw action as Private First Class in the Pacific during World War II, and was wounded (in the buttocks) by fire which severed his sciatic nerve. However, this injury occurred during the battle for Saipan in June 1944, not the battle for Iwo Jima, which took place several months later, in February 1945. (Marvin also did receive a Purple Heart, and he is indeed buried at Arlington National Cemetery.)

Bob Keeshan, later famous as television's "Captain Kangaroo," also enlisted in the U.S. Marines, but too late to see any action during World War II. Keeshan was born on 27 June 1927 and enlisted two weeks before his 18th birthday, months too late to have taken part in the fighting at Iwo Jima. A 1997 interview with Keeshan noted that he "later enlisted in the U.S. Marines but saw no combat" because, as Keeshan said, he signed up "just before we dropped the atom bomb."

    Re: Lee Marvin Movies

Well, after seeing the photos of the tombstone, I see the significance of the date of the original post. Aug. 29 is LM's death date. I think it's significant that even though he was a world famous actor, he was apparently so proud of his affiliation with the Marine Corps during WWII, and not at all ashamed to claim the lowly rank of PFC that he had it put on his tombstone.

    Rest in peace, brother Marine.
