Dah! isn't that what profiling means, singling out the behavior of certain individuals? I mean if we were all the same would there be a need for it? and after all who is committing all the terror acts these days?

Disclaimer:  This is opinion, based on research.  I am not, nor do I claim to speak for LEO.  I am just basing this on what I have learned.

I took a class last semester, "Intro to Moral Issues."  We covered this topic in a debate.  I was assigned to be on the "yes" side that it was okay.  The class was mixed about 60% white, 40% other.  Of the 5 people assigned to be on our side, only two of us showed up for class that day willing to even debate.  Needless to say, we lost horribly.  Not because our arguement was not sound but because people look at the abuses of racism and associate them with profiling. 

The act of profiling involves looking for probabilities within a group.  It is one tool among others that police can use to investigate crimes that have been commited.  Other professional groups use profiling also.  Insurance companies do it, charging younger drivers and those that live in bad areas more money on their premiums.  Doctors do it in trying to find likely causes for illnesses.  Marketing and Advertising people make their living off of knowing how to target their products to the people most likely looking for them.

The problem that most people associate with profiling is that some people are racists and in positions of authority target certain ethinic groups and abuse their power.  That is a problem not related to profiling, but of racism itself.   

Racial profiling is often used in an effort for doing pro-active policework.  LEO are accused of not doing their jobs in protecting citizens in an area.  They are charged with the responsibility of trying to and reduce crime in an area.  They use all of the tools available to them.  Profiling the pattern of crimes includes many things, not just race.  The profile developed from the history of crime in the area often points to one problem type of offender and a common type of crime.  This is when people start screaming about racism.  Unfortunately if the statistics in an area support the profile, then the problem isn't in the policework that was done, but the bigger problem of the area itself having a breakdown of community.

Now before anyone gets their knickers in knots, I know that statistics can be skewed to support most anything.  But from the research that I did in preparing for the debate, it is difficult to skew the facts of who was arrested and what they were charged with. 

So I base my opinion that racial profile is justified not on a list that spans 34 years and only includes 13 crimes but research and reality.

I dont know who coined the phrase...(racial profiling ) but i think it`s stupid . Several years ago an 83 year old lady was mugged beaten robbed and thrown to the ground ,  When the police was summoned the discription was givenas follows   A 20 or 21 year old black man pushed beat and robbed her .  she said she thought that it may be a college student because it was near a park where they use it as a short cut to downtown .  The police went to the college and asked for names and photos for identification pourposes ...THE RESULT WAS A BIG INVESTIGATION INTO RACIAL PROFILING...all hogwash .  who else would you look for if you say a black person did it ...a chinaman ???

Our PC leanings over the past 20 to 30 years has gotten our (sadly misguided) public opinion to the point that fear of offending an ethnic or racial group has left our LEO's and military's hands effectively tied behind their backs, while it is their charge to defend our nation.

WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO WAKE UP, LIBS?  WHEN THE BOMB IS DROPPED ON YOUR HOUSE?   Oops....too late.

Umm, I don't know if this is connected to what I heard on the news this morning when at the tire shop getting a repair done, but according to the broadcaster, the justice system is going to change the rules about profiling American citizens in determining if they qualify as terror suspects.  They didn't say anything about Muslims, Blacks, Mexican, Chinese or any other race, only that they were going to start profiling citizens. 

Now, for sake of argument, what citizens do you all feel they will be putting on the list first?  People of color, certain ethnic and racial groups, or gun owners?  I already know how I answer that one and I believe that every American needs to be concerned about this turn of events.

When you profile, you narrow the search and increase the odds of finding the BG. or whoever it is your looking for. Can anyone stand here and tell me that marketing people don't profile.

What if they decide BT is really a terrorist board and ALL members are terrorist.  We have a Constitution  Like it or not it must be followed.   Remember  in this game you ask for a lot  then you settle for maybe 1/2 . Then you come right back and do it again.  You will get what you want in the end and people won't even relize  they were had. Someone with an agenda could come up with all kinds of conclusions there.  Only thing I will say is way too many drunk drivers.
