My third attempt at a holster

Ok so my second attempt at a holster was too hideous to see the light of day so I'm now posting pics of my third attempt Stick out tongue [:P]

This is an all leather beltslide holster for my gf's Taurus 905.  It has a dropped front so she doesn't have to raise it as high to draw it, the front loop is set away from the main part of the holster to give her some offset, and it only has a slight amount of cant built into it (some due to the position of the pistol and some due to the height of the belt slots).

Again, I do this because I enjoy making things.  It really makes me appreciate what Nate at UBG does and for how much (or little) money he does it for.  I really don't think it's worth doing it yourself if you just want to save money, because you won't... especially if you attach a dollar amount to your time.

    Anyway, here are the pics.

The holster looks good. With the cutout does it make it easier to draw?

Is that the gun that you put the other hammer in to bob.

That's the idea anyway Wink [;)]  It also allows the topstrap of the gun to ride a little away from the body for an easier draw.

Yup, that's actually the new hammer in the pic.  I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet and I want to make sure it functions before I bob it because Numrich's will take it back as long as it isn't altered.

    Great job Bronson!

Now I have to ask , where in ones garage/basement does one find a sewing machine that does this type of work? Certainly you didn't go out and  buy onr to make a holster or three.

    Great job once again!

A machine... that's a good one Wink [;)]  No machine, the holes are all hand punched* and it's all hand stitched.  http://www.wrtcleather.com/1-ckd/tutorials/_leatherstitch.html

*Well, actually, I chucked my punch in the drill press and used it like an arbor press to push the punch through the leather instead of pounding it with a hammer.  The belt I did was all with a hammer and I had to find a better way Stick out tongue [:P]

Re: My third attempt at a holster

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

I've been wearing it today (gf doesn't pick her CPL up until next week) it's very comfortable, I can hardly tell I'm wearing it sitting, standing, or moving but it's a little tight.  I can get the pistol out but it's not really smooth.  I'm not used to the nearly straight up draw angle so that may be getting me.  It needs to have a mostly straight up draw angle since my gf has a short torso and wears her pants up on her waist, it's pretty awkward to draw at an angle in that position.  I've lessened the amount of retention at the trigger guard and hopefully it'll loosen up a little more with use.  I think she may actually prefer an appendix carry rig and may make one for her and keep this one for myself since it's so comfy Stick out tongue [:P]

The other big problem we're running into is the belt.  She doesn't normally wear one and when she does it's pretty loose.  She's a big girl and in order for the belt to be supported by some skeletal structure she would have to have it so tight she couldn't breath.  I'll have to figure something out for that... I'm open to suggestions.

    Thanks again for the encouragement.

    Bronson
