    New Owner!

Hi everyone. I am happy to say that I am a new owner to the Bersa Thunder 380. So far I'm loving the gun, especially the size for conceal carry and the good grip I can get on it. I'm really digging the safety features it has as well. Let me say that this is my first conceal carry pistol and I have been going over ways to learn more and more about the gun. I have never owned a hand gun before and I feel good that I purchased this one. My only concearn is an accidental discharge while I'm carrying the gun which is one reason I like the safety features on it. One thing I was curious about is, is their any possibility that the gun can discharge accidentally if I am carrying it and thier is NO round cocked in the chamber?  I've been thinking of carrying it with the rounds in the magazine ONLY rather than have one in the chamber until IF (and I hope it never will), the situation occurs, then I would have to load the chamber. Good to meet you all!

    Re: New Owner!

Congratulations on your new gun.  I carry a Thunder 9 ultra compact.  These guns are designed to be carried with a round in the chamber with the hammer down and the saftey on.  Read the owners manual carefully.  Follow all saftey rules and you should have no problems.  You should do enough shooting to be completly comfortable with any firearm before you stake your life on it.  Good shooting.

    Re: New Owner!

I agree. Learn your gun. Practice alot. Learn saftey. Then carry with one in the chamber, decocked with saftey on. In a life or death situation you most likely will not have time to rack one in or you may even be partaly disabled and cant rack one. It will never happen the way YOU plan it.. Good luck, be safe and have fun here at Bersa Talk.

Indeed the UC9 can be carried with the safety on since disengaging it is a rather natural movement. However, I find for me the best way to carry my .380CC is with the safety off, letting the DA pull act as the safety, since the safety on it is designed back-asswards. IMHO.

Hi txboy3 and welcome....Smile [:)]. I also carry my T380 with a round in the chamber, and let the DA trigger serve as my safety..

Hey everyone, thanks for all the tips. I just purchased this pistol Saturday so bear with me that I'm new to the "Gun language". Yeah but I like all the safty features on it. The DA trigger is a good tip for safety carry.

Yep, that's the way to go.  Practice, practice, etc., and a little format training never hurt either.  Welcome aboard, and Happy Shooting.

Hey heres a pretty cool site that I found. It's pretty good in highlighting the safety features from the manual.

    http://www.geocities.com/bersa_thunder/manual1.html

When you carry the T380 and use the DA trigger as your safety, do you keep the safety manual on or off? What is your preferance?

    Re: New Owner!

Both the wife and I carry with one in the chamber and the decocker (safety off) You use the decocker to drop the hammer, this is very disconcerting to anyone who hasn't used a decocker.

After racking the slide aim the gun in a safe direction, move the decocker down, this will drop the hammer. The gun if functioning properly will not go off. Now move the decocker to the up position ready to fire. You are now in a double action mode and to shoot the gun will require a longer and harder pull than it does with the hammer back in single action. After the first shot your gun will be in the S/A mode with the hammer back ready for the next shot. Never carry in the S/A mode with your Bersa T-.380, only in the D/A mode.  Another thing always use a holster to carry a gun with one in the chamber. If you pocket carry get a pocket holster, you need the protection of the trigger being covered by the holster so it can't snag causing a discharge.

If you want to make sure your decocker is functioning properly, this test is for your own self assurance, do the following.  Using a new .380 snap cap. load it into the mag and rack the slide, now drop the decocker. Rack the slide again ejecting the snap cap and inspect the fake primer..No firing pin strike should appear. If it does do not shot the gun, sent it to our warranty center to get it repaired.

Oh yes, welcome to the forum.

    Re: New Owner!

    WELCOME txboy3

Break in your new BT380 with  quality FMJ (full metal jacket) rounds such as Winchesters, you can get a carton of 100 for $30 at WalMart, shoot at least 300 before it is considered reliable for your concealed carry weapon than move to a good hollowpoint self defence round, my favorite is Golden Sabres or Corbon DPX either will suit you well and the majority of folks here will say the same I believe. Get yourself a quality holster our holster guy here on BersaTalk forums is Nate, he owns UBG Holsters and you will not be dissappointed he is AWESOME as well as very reasonable. www.ubgholsters.com

Whatever you do, PLEASE keep one in the chamber, hammer down and safety off using the DA trigger for the safety!!! That is the correct way of carrying a Bersa. Someday your life or life of a loved one might depend on you and your BT380 being ready to defend,, in a stressful situation you just don't realise how confusing things get like getting your weapon out of your holster from under clothing , trying too pull the slide back to chamber a round and at the same time trying to stay alive, trust me been there done that and it ain't no fun.
