    First trip to the range

Took my new Thunder .45 UC to the range this morning. I thought you all might like to know my experience.

Fired about 75 rounds of WWB with 2 failures to return to battery.

Fired 19 rounds of Taurus Hex 185 gr. (all copper hollow point) with two failures to return to battery.

Fired 14 rounds of  Federal Personal Defense 165 gr. with one failure to return to battery and one failure to eject.

Fired 14 rounds of Federal Hydrashok 230 gr. with one failure to return to battery.

For a new gun which isn't broken in yet,I think these are not too bad a result, especially since some of them could easily have been my fault.

Personal observation leads me to believe that I got the best accuracy from the 230 gr. Hydrashoks, but that could be my familiarity wth the gun increasing as they were my last shots.
I really like this gun; it feels good in my hands, and it is compact enough for concealed carry. As I get more used to it, especially the sights, I expect to like it even more. When I was trying to decide what to buy, it was between the Bersa and the SIG P220. I liked the SIG, but it was more than twice the price of the Bersa.

Clean the pistol real good and stay with ball ammo  for a 100 or so rounds.  Let ther ball smooth things out some.

Re: First trip to the range

Size is almost identical (.45 is a few tenths of an inch longer in the barrel). Definitely more recoil than the 9mm. Didn't really notice whether the noise is much different.

Both are nice guns. The 9mm seems to have less out of the box feed problems (zero). But as I shot it more the .45 definitely became more reliable as it broke in.

Re: First trip to the range

Well I must say my first time on the range yesterday with my new Bersa UC.45 was a bit discouraging also. The gun fed well using both 230G Wins and Blazer Brass and I didnt have one hangup in 250 rounds that I put thru it. Thats the good news, the bad is I couldn't hit anything at 25 yds. I seem to be hitting almost six inches lower than what I had sighted in! I wanted to try 12 yds but the range was busy and quite crowded down there. Does anyone know how to correct the issue? What do I do file down the front sight to bring the muzzle up? I have heard .45s are a slower round so I guess that too could result in drop. Or should I use a faster fps round at shooting that distance. I brought it home and gave it a good cleaning now what should I do? Any comments greatly app.
Just aim in the general direction and empty the magazine

Re: First trip to the range

Don't file the sight! First, 75 yards is awfully far for what this pistol is designed for, it's not a target gun.
Next, what sight picture are you using? The Bersa sights are setup for a "dead on" hold at defensive ranges, if you are using a 6 o'clock hold it will be low. At 25 yds it will be even lower but not all of that is bullet drop, it is simply pointed lower, the more you increase the distance the wider the gap from your target.
Before you do anything, shoot it off of a sandbag or rest from 10 yards or so with a dead on sight picture, I'll bet you rip the center out of the bullseye.
