    Tom's Rusting Bersa 380 Slide

The finish on the slide of my Thunder 380 Duo Tone started to rust. This is a brand new pistol. The screw head on the grip is also rusting. Surface rust. No pitting yet. I pulled my pistol today to show my buddy and that is when I noticed it.

I carry the pistol with a shoulder holster on my weak side and the problem is where the barrel sticks out of the holster approx. 1" and lays against my undershirt.  The rusted grip screw is on the same side. The other side of the pistol is ok.

I carry a better name brand matte black finished pistol on the strong side and no problems whatsoever.

I was shocked because I take very good care of my firearms. I field stripped and cleaned the pistol 3 weeks ago after shooting it and the problem was not there at that time. I've been carring it almost everyday since then.

Well, tonight I sprayed the slide and bolt down with Rem oil cleaned it off and sprayed it again and cleaned it off. I think the rust is gone but the Matte black finish is also going away.

I have no pictures of the pistol in this condition but I can take pictures on the hankercheif with rust stains on it. What should I do as this IS my favorite carry pistol.

    Thanks

Is this a common problem?  I don't have any issues yet here.  Does anyone have issues with rust?

Re: Tom's Rusting Bersa 380 Slide

I use a paste wax on my pistols  Just make sure not kind with rubbing compound in it.  I have blue guns that date to early 70's that still look like new,  I don't carry them every day but they have seen a fair share of carry.

I also wipe my pistols down with silcone cloth at night and in morning before goes in holster. I clean carry guns on Sunday instead of watching TV. I have no cable or any  ant. hook up on my TV's They are only hooked to DVD or VHS players.  Treat you weapons with care If it needs cleaning every day to keep rust free then it needs cleaning.

+1 on the silicone gun cloth

i used to get small amounts of spot rust consistently on the slide, hammer, and trigger of my duotone. now that i wipe down all my guns with the silicone cloth, i havent seen any rust in over a year.

I have a buddy who has a similar issue with any metal he handles on a regular basis.  He say's its its because too much or too little electrolytes in his body (I don't remember).  We flew RC Heli's together (gas powered and electric ones) and sure enough, even the the new ones would get rust on the after a week.  They were kept inside and cleaned.  Just a thought?

I try not to move fast enough to sweat. Also, not to much humidity here in AZ.

I spray mine weekly with Jig-A-Loo Lubricant.  Works Great!  I had prior rust problems with my carry gun but since I started using Jig-A-Loo - No problems!
