    Bersa .45UC Help

    Royce -

I sent you .45 UC s/n 876772 back in December for warranty repair.  You made a determination the pistol was not repairable and sent it to Eagle Imports for replacement.  They received the weapon in New Jersey on Dec. 29, according to their records.  To date, no replacement has been received at Eagle.

I have spoken with Dee at Eagle six times in the last 7 weeks (she is in charge of replacements).  Each time the story is slightly different, but the net result is the same - no replacement weapon.  Dee tells me they are at the mercy of the factory, whom she says is shipping the fast selling .380's almost exclusively.

I have offered to accept a substitute model gun, but Dee explains they do this only when a model is discontinued.

Three months and counting seems like a long time to wait for a replacement or substitute gun.  At my age, my lifetime is going to expire before I can collect on the lifetime warranty.  Is this normal for Bersa replacements?

Do you have any levers you can move to help get me a pistol?

Any help will be appreciated - thanks.

    Re: Bersa .45UC Help

We just checked with Dee about some of the replacements that seem to be taking a longer than usual time to complete. She assured me that she is trying, and I do know the the President of the company just returned from South America where he had meetings with manufacturing personnel in regards to issues we have been having. I will let you know what we find out next week and if we can do anything to help.

    Royce -

I'm still waiting for help on getting my .45UC replaced.  Over 4 months now and nothing has happened.  Dee continues to tell me she has my phone # and will call me when I have a pistol inbound.

I'd like to have a .45, but at this point, I would take just about anything in 9mm. if it would get this case resolved.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Bersa .45UC Help

I actually spoke with Dee this morning about replacement firearms for Firestorm and Comanche. She just shipped us replacement firearms for the Comanche firearms we had ordered, and said she was pushing to get an answer on your Firestorm. She hopes to have an answer soon and will let us know as soon as she knows something. They are at the mercy of what the manufacturor sends to them. I know it is hard, but please be patient.

I guess I have no choice but to be patient.  I'll try again.

For the record, mine is not a Firestorm, but I'd take about anything right now.

    Royce -

I'm still being patient, but we are now coming up on six months and counting with no replacement pistol.  Can you convince Dee this is a model discontinuation and get her to authorize a different pistol for me?

Alternatively, I'll trade my supposedly inbound new one to you for something interesting in 9 mm. (other than Bersa)  that you have in the shop.  I fully realize  a cash difference would be involved.  Any chance you have a Browning or CZ compact in 9 mm.? An S&W 908 would also be a consideration.

Share your thoughts with me.  My thoughts are that I am finished with Bersa.

I just spoke with Dee in NJ and she tells me my replacement .45 will ship to you tomorrow with a Wednesday arrival.

Assuming the pistol checks out OK with you, when should I start looking for it to arrive in Texas?

Per my previous unanswered message, are you interested in taking it in trade on a non-Bersa  9mm.  that you have in your shop?  I would expect to pay some cash in addition to the pistol.   Let me know if you are interested and what you might have in inventory.

    Thanks for any help.

    Re: Bersa .45UC Help

    Royce -

Thanks for getting my .45 UC back to me so promptly after waiting on Eagle for five months.

I put a box of Wolf steel case through it today and had four Fail to Feed.  All were cleared with a simple bump on the slide.  I then put 7 rds. of Federal Supreme JHP through it and every other round was an FTF.  Also cleared with a simple bump on the slide.  I rotated 4 different mags (factory, new) and all of them had at least one FTF.

On disassembly, nothing unusual is seen.  The wear pattern on the ramp is slightly off center to the right, but my untrained eyes see nothing else suspicious.

Should I continue to shoot and treeat it as a break in period, or do you want me to send you the gun?  I haven't cleaned it yet, so I can either give you pix if you want, or send it to you in the "as fired" condition.

    Any advice is welcome.

    Hi,
I know i'm not supposed to post here but i just can't help myself:
Get rid of the wolf and try other ammo (please Big Smile [:D]). like REMINGTON or WINCHESTER. known brands with decent quality control.

    Re: Bersa .45UC Help

First, clean the pistol of all the shipping RIG that is on it and then lube it correctly. Then put at least a couple of hundred rounds through it. If it continues or gets worse, please send it to us. I agree with the statement of GET RID OF THE WOLF AMMO! I hope the steel cased crap didn't harm the pistol right off the bat. Please keep me advised of what is occurring, and we shall go from there.

    Re: Bersa .45UC Help

    Royce -

Your lecture on Wolf ammo is noted and accepted.

Per your instructions, the pistol has been field stripped (no further), thoroughly cleaned of the factory oils and lightly lubed with Hoppe's oil. I put 50 rounds of Magtech FMJ through it today and had 14 Fail to Feeds.  I rotated all 4 of my factory mags, and they all had FTF's.  I had two experienced buddies shoot it to check for "limp-wristing". All of us had FTF's.  All of the FTF's were cleared with a light bump on the back of theslide.  The longest interval between FTF's was 5 shots.  A couple of times, 2 in a row.

The pistol shoots very accurately, much better that my Colt M1991.  I like it, except for the FTF's.  I don't feel like running another $75 worth of ammo through it to see if it gets better.  May I return it for warranty work (please note I have refrained from the temptation to give you my amateur analysis and recommendations), or should I just go ahead and sell the thing? If I do send it in, how many of the 4 mags do you want sent with it?

Your advice will be most welcome.

    Regards,

    Re: Bersa .45UC Help

Please send it in, and include the mags(all of them) so we can make sure they all work with the pistol correctly. I would not sell it, as I'm sure it is probably something we can repair quickly. If it is cleared with a slight bump to the rear of the slide, I can think of a few things it could be, and none of them are major issues. So, it should come in and go back out pretty quickly. Please let me know what you decide, so I can keep an eye out for it.

My .45UC is on its way to you from my FFL via US
