    Firestorm Mini 40

    Hello all,

    I'm new to the forum.

Just thought I'd post this info and ask a question.

I just bought a Mini 40 and took it to the range yesterday.  It shot great right out of the box.

I only shot about 100 rounds.  I used Remeington's JHP and Jacketed flat nosed.  Not one jam or malfunction.  I was very impressed with the gun.

I only had two problems.  First, due to the long hard trigger pull in double action, it took me a while to see where my first shot was hitting.  I pulled the first shot way low everytime.  After that, all other rounds, in SA, were dead center.  That's just the gun, and now I know so I'm prepared.

A bigger problem is that when I change mags and "Slam" a new mag in, the slide cycles by itself.  I should have to manually rack the slide or hit the slide release.  Anyone else have this problem?

I've been carrying a CZ-83 for personal protection for a long time.  I wanted to carry a heavier caliber but I'm a small guy and can't conceal a large firearm.  The Mini40 is exactly the same size as my CZ and fits in all my holsters.  I'll probably start carrying it after I get the slide problem fixed.

    Have fun and safe shooting,

    Bill

    Re: Firestorm Mini 40

Hello hog182 and welcome to bersa talk.I have a mini firestorm 40 and have never experienced this problem with mine.I don`t make it a habit of "slamming " the mag into the gun as i don`t believe this would be good for the mag or the gun.If there is any doubt as to the gun working properly,by all means have it checked out by a licensed gunsmith to make sure it is operating safely. We have a very good gunsmith who is a memeber here.Mr. Royce Honeycutt. You can look hik up in the members list and send him an e-mail concerning your question and i`m sure he could help you.Good Luck.

    Re: Firestorm Mini 40

    Hi Bill,

It seems to me that some Bersa owners have reported having this same issue.  It's never hapened to me, but I don't slam my magazines.  Actually, I don't think it's a major problem.  It just makes manually releasing the slide unnecessary.  Check with our resident gunsmith.  I expect it's an easy problem to correct.

I'm kind of a small guy too, if you ignore my swelling waist line.  I've always had a problem concealing a pistol, especially since I live in Florida.  I solved that problem by buying a Kel Tec P3AT, but it's only a .380 and does not pack the punch of your Mini 40.

    Welcome to the forum.

    Re: Firestorm Mini 40

    Jim,

I also have a P3AT and I love it.  It's great for running to the store.

Like I said, I have been carrying a CZ-83 in .380.  That is a great firearm.

I don't want to get into a cal, stopping power debate, but I am one who thinks that a .380 can be effective.  So why did I buy the Firestorm?  I still would like to carry a heavier caliber if it doesn't mean carrying something so big I can't conceal it.

I'll have the slide problem looked at.  I tried different mags and they do the samething, but only if the mag is loaded.  An empty mag won't send the slide home.

    Thanks for the info.

Hey my new T380 does the same thing!

Glad it's not just me. I have a tendency to put the mag in "in a firm manner".

    Guess I'll be more gentle.

    Re: Firestorm Mini 40

Guys, read my recent posts on this issue. The T380 has this as part of it's design. The U/C has a slightly differant system, but if it is not doing it with an empty magazine and it is not locking back early while there are still rounds in the magazine, I think it is just a case of you overriding the tesion of the slide catch system while seating a new magazine. Not a problem, just don't hit it as hard, or accept it as a lightning fast way to load the first round.

    Hey all,

I am new to the forum, I picked up my Firestorm mini 40 today and shot winchester 180 FMJ right out of the box, the gun is jamming once on each magazine about the third shot ,it seems like the round is not being pushed up for the reciever to grab it, I also tried  remington golden saber 180 JHP, same problem.

    Any suggestions

    Re: Firestorm Mini 40

    Ed,

Easiest suggestion I can make, is to fire several hundred rounds of FMJ through the pistol to break it in.

What do you  think of that Kahr P45 including for concealed carry??

    Good luck.

I agree with you. I tryed this experiment with my FS Mini 40 and that is the way it happens. If you slam it into the gun It will drop the slide, but if don't slam it it works just fine. Give that a try and Welcome to the Bersa Forum. Dave.

When you say "right out of the box", did you clean it first?  Get the packing grease off, oil the slide rails, and give it another go.

    Re: Firestorm Mini 40

I agree with jc40, dont slam.  I have a mini40 and have slamed it and never had this problem,  but it dose take a little extra effort to get the mag to hook the catch. Try this, slide the mag as far as you can, it you watch the mag release button you should see it start to come out, when you cant PUSH any more just give it a light TAP not a SLAM, this should work it's what I do.  Hope this helps. lg27

I'm getting off the topic of this thread, but Ed, I'm interested in your experience with the P45.  I had a PM40 and it had a habit of breaking followers and cracking magazine boxes.  I really like the size of the Kahrs, but I didn't have a lot of confidence in their reliablity.  However, you seem to be pretty confident in your P45, so I might have to rethink my opinion.  Your comments would be very helpful.  Thanks.

Agreed. That is how i insert the mag for my mini 40.I simply push the mag in as far as it will go and when you feel the slight increase in resistance, just give it a push and you will hear it click and it`s a done deal.Hope you have years of enjoying your mini 40 as i have.
