Last week I was "running errands" when I ducked into a couple of local gun stores and checked out their prices on any Bersa products I might find.
The first store, a pawn shop specializing in guns, had a NIB Firestorm 22 priced at $229.95. This is the same store where I bought mine for $219.99 over a year ago.
I was just going to ask him if he'd seen any Ruger LCPs when I was distracted by a nickel Firestorm Mini 40. I asked to see it and also if it was brand new, and he said he thought so, the box was right there, and he showed me the key and the spent shell casing (envelope). He thought it was NIB, and I thought to myself "This is a pawn shop and they take in used guns every day, so it's probably like new." His price was $299.99, and it was in excellent shape with no noticeable wear of any kind. But there wasn't any of the factory preservative that the brand new ones are usually dripping with. And I think there was only the one mag.
I went on up the street to a sporting good store and found a matte Bersa Thunder 40 (13 rounder) for $369.95, I think it was, but I was more interested in, (and asked to see), the matte Thunder 45 Ultra Compact. This one was clearly NIB, dripping with factory preservative. It was priced at $325.99, which was less than what I'd paid for my 9UC over a year ago at the same store. I didn't think to ask if it came with 2 mags. I held the gun and cycled the slide a few times and worked the safety and slide catch and release, too. Everything seemed smooth and totally operational. The gun felt good in my hands. In fact, it didn't feel any larger than my 9UC, even though it's supposed to be minutely bigger.
So, anyway, I know that some of the local dealers have some of the Bersa products here in Utah. The first store was Van Wagenen's, and the other was Gunnie's, both on State Street in Orem. And I know if I get a hankering for a Firestorm Mini 40 or a BT45UC, I should be able to find one locally.
I definitely could carry a BT45UC. Hmmm.
And I do have a birthday coming up.
