If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I have an old Thunder 9 that I bought used at a pawn shop, and it has only one spring on the guide rod. It's never failed to feed or cycle, no matter what ammo I use. My 9UC and 45UC, which were purchased NIB, both have 2 springs on the guide rod. When I check the replacement parts list at Eagle Imports, I see that under the Thunder 9 they list a "recoil spring set" available for $5. Under the Thunder 40, they list a "recoil spring", available for $4. So do the newer T9s come with the double spring, while the T40s come with only one? I don't know. But Bersa S.A. has been making handguns since 1959, and I bet they have a pretty good reason for configuring the recoil springs in the manner that they do.
The only way that I could see to test the spring without firing would be to hand cycle the pistol. If you have snap caps, use them.
If the gun works flawlessly, it seems like you're trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. Which could be a good way to cause trouble. And if you cause yourself trouble by making unauthorized modifications to the gun, you could void your warranty. Just a thought.
