Here is the picture of the front of the FireStorm .45  Is this kind of gap at the top the norm?

This is the feed ramp.  Nicely polished!

First shots using older Federal ammo.  At night at 15 feet, with flashlight held in mouth between teeth.

For the record, I tried one of the Cor-Bon  DPX bullets in it and no feed problems at all.

The gap at the top is normal. It allows the front of the barrel to tip up when the slide moves to the rear.

Looks just like my Bersa .45. There is quite a bit of movement there as the slide racks back.

Re: .45 ACP shooters? How is the Bersa?

    Congratulations on your new acquisition.

    Darth AkSarBen:

I took pictures if anyone is interested.  I also polished the slide tonight.  Looks like a mirror finish.  I'll post picture of it sometime as well.

I'm interested. I didn't know the Mini 45 was available in stainless.

    Darth AkSarBen:

I thought that the .45 has a loaded indicator?  Not this one, other than the fact that you can fell along the side where the ejector rod is located and it is now smoothe, flush, with the slide.

There are retailers who've perpetuated this myth, but it's still a myth. Apparently the new Thunder Pro will have one, along with an accessory rail, according to Mason and Chort. Don't know if that will spread to the UCs or Mini guns. I wouldn't mind having one. Until then, I'll just assume every gun is loaded until I confirm otherwise, IAW safety rule #1.

I can't feel or see the difference in the ejector rod, loaded or unloaded, in either my 9UC or 45UC.

    Darth AkSarBen:

I sure do wish I could put the first round in other than in cocked and ready to go.

I love the way the safety/decocker works so flawlessly and effortlessly on the 45UC compared to the awkward, barely adequate set up of the BT380 and Firestorm 22.

When I got that a few years ago, I couldn't hardly get the cylinder release to open up and let the cylinder to open out.  It had heavy oil still in there from when it was shipped.  I cleaned out all the old shipping cosmoline, and run a soft swab through the barrel and cylinders.  When the guy at the gun store looked down the barrel with his light, he lightly whispered  "Wow!"    It had been opened up several time (cylinder), and I did have some 38spl +P Hydra Shock in there in case someone did enter our home and I needed something better than my Ruger 22 autoloader.  But, I never shot it, not even with some semi-wadcutters I had.

BTW, this FireStom is a shooter!  It's tighter grouped than the Bersa BT380! I was shooting Winchester Western 230gr FMJ from Walmart today and actually had one round (first) that shot and the slide was in the back position briefly, then went forward into battery by itself.   All shots other than that were flawless.  Trigger has a nice feel to it as well.

Yeah, I gotta admit. I don't like revolvers but I think I would have held on to that Colt. Anything from prior to 1970s in an unfired state is worth hanging on to in my opinion.

The Bersa .45s are that expensive, should have just waited a little longer and paid for it.

Re: .45 ACP shooters? How is the Bersa?

Yea, I know..... money is a little tight right now.  Daughter want's braces, and it was a LOT easier to explain to my wife that I have a new pistol if I was able to do a straight across trade with no extra cash.  The Colt was nice, but it was simply a "drawer" gun, meaning it would have never been utilized or appreciated that much since it was always tucked away.  It would have done well for SD, but I was more interested in getting the Bersa .45, as I really liked that caliber when I had my Ruger DA pistol.

I have long fingers and this new .45 ACP really feels nice in my hand.  I don't find the recoil burdensome, and it is just a tad more than my .380 .... to me anyway.

Also It was S.S.  I guess they are starting to make them in Stainless now, and in MICHIGAN, the land of 20,000 potholes and humidity that feels like Cambodia, a Stainless gun is nice going rom AC house to muggy outdoors.  My Ruger rifle is SS as well.  I WISH my Buick was Stainless Steel as well!! LOL

BTW, did I mention it's a shooter!!  I'll have to post a pic. *BG*

p-t-max, take a look at this link:  http://www.bersafirearmsusa.com/detail_bersa45.php  Notice that in it's features it says "All new Stainless Steel Finish available."

    http://www.firestorm-sgs.com/mini.htm

Vern, I was aware that the Bersa Thunder 45 Ultra Compact was available in stainless, just like it says at that link. But if you go to the Firestorm link, it shows the Mini 45 available in matte, duotone, and satin nickel. It doesn't mention stainless. That's what led me to believe that the Mini 45 wasn't available in stainless. Silly me. Tongue Tied [:S]

I'm still interested in seeing pictures whenever you get around to it.

Re: .45 ACP shooters? How is the Bersa?

Hey p-t-max!  I am about 95% sure it is satin nickel.  the internal parts appear stainless, and I polished the slide (center) where the hammer rides on when it is in recoil, but the hammer has some metal flaking on it.  I did take a picture.  Not a big deal, as I can get around that, but that would probably indicate it being a nickel and not stainless firearm.

Picture of the Bersa FireStorm mini 45 on the left side.  The right side has the Bersa name on it and country of origin.

Here is the best of the targes I fired after supper tonight.  It is 5 shots, and for illustration I covered the holes with a 50 cent piece, and then slid it down for a second picture.  Yes there are 5 holes in there.  I had some pretty good groups, but as it would be, there would be shot 1 through 6 right in there next to each other and then ONE out there 2 - 3 inches away from any other bullet hole.

I'd say it is a lot more accurate then my Bersa BT380.

I need to get a set of RCBS dies I think!!  LOL

Winchester Western 230 gr FJM I got from Wal - Mart.

There is a Federal Hydra Shock .45 bullet next to it I shot into the dirt backstop last night and recovered this morning.  Diameter is 0.823 "

Re: .45 ACP shooters? How is the Bersa?

Vern, thanks for the pictures. Nice shooting, BTW.

Yep, it looks like nickel, with aluminum frame. Still a nice looking gun. I almost jumped on a nickel Mini 40 once, but I just couldn't sell myself on that .40 S&W round. I had the opinion that if you're going to go as far as .40, you might as well go ahead and get a .45, so that's what I did.

Well, I guess I don't have to tell you that the nickel will require a little extra caution with cleaning to avoid flaking and peeling.

Sounds like you got a keeper. Enjoy your new gun and have fun.

Re: .45 ACP shooters? How is the Bersa?

Vern, one more question. It came up recently in another thread. Did your Firestorm come with two magazines or one, and if it came with only one, what was the date it was test fired? We're aware that the new larger caliber Bersas are supposed to be shipping with two mags, but some have wondered if the Firestorms are coming with two, too. Thanks.

Re: .45 ACP shooters? How is the Bersa?

It came with 2 magazines.  Did some shooting thursday afternoon and then Friday mornin I woke up in awful pain around 5:00 am and had the dry heaves for around 30-40 minutes.  Came to the dr office and now I'm in the hospital with gall stones and pancreatis.  So not been to active getting back to the posts.  They are looking at taking out the gall bladder sunday or monday, and hope tha tthe pancreas can be spared.

Yep, it's a good shooter alright.

BTW there is flaking on the hammer, but I haven't cleaned it with anything, just wiped out the excess oil.  Apparently it was sthis wasy from the factory.

    Gotta go...
