MikLaw:
Since I can't legally CCW either in Kaliforkinya, I keep them in a mobile kit that goes with me (legally) in the vehicle and when I take to the woods, I carry them on my belt.
Around the house, they are both concealed on my person. The sidearm worn on my belt using a belt slide holster with clip. It snugs up to my body and is invisible with an untucked shirt. The knife is worn under my left arm using a tactical (paracord) shoulder harness.
The sidearm is of course, my Bersa T380 loaded up with Cor-bons Personal Defense JHP ammo and the knife is my Becker Necker BK-11 with paracord wrap handle.

I carried a 5" folder "Cold steel voyger" clipped on my pocket for years in Ca. I am talking every major city. I spent a week or more in Ca every mo from 89 to 03 Talked with police shopped in the malls rode buses and walked the streets of these citys. I was never bothered. My understanding is a large folder is legal to carry except where local laws over ride.
You need to contact a lawyer and have him explain local and state laws and give you copies. Remember CCW is legal It you LOCAL law enforcement that preventing it. . Move to a county that issues and get a CCW or work to remove the road block locally.
As for you question I NEVER carry less than a 4" blade. Right know is a old fashion 50's type stag griped made in Italy 5" bayonet style blade , Switch blade .. I have several of these type knives . No a good slashing knife but good poker . I grew up with these (got first one at 14) and have likeness for them
As for carry what ever I decide that day . Today its my ivory gripped PPK/S with DPX.
