HELP! - Why all the Bersa trashing from gun stores?
I have visited 6 gun shops in the Miami / Ft. Lauderdale, and Palm Beach area in Florida, looking to view and handle the Bersa product line's and they all seem to trash the Bersa products as infirerior products, due to metallurgy problems. In the reviews from this forum, I have not heard of any problems metallurgy. I understand that they all seem to carry the Sig and Glock products, but it makes me nervous, as all of my new Bersa forum friends seem to be so favorable to the Bersa's. I have to feel comfortable with my local gunshop, however if they don't reccomend I buy a Bersa, where do I go for service? I was really hoping for a more favorable review. I guess a Bersa UC9 at $299.00 compared to a Glock 26 at $699 would be the answer. But I'm not fixing to pay $699.00, unless I'm a cop. I'm getting some unexpected mixed reviews about buying a Bersa.

It is all due to ignorance and their desire to sell you a very high priced handgun.Probably more of the later.

That's what I am thinking also.
On another note, if I was to purchase from Gunbroker.com and have to register through a local licensed gun dealer, how much comfort level do you have in by-passing the local gun shop to either save a few bucks or buy online due to the local shop does't have in stock?

Lets see I think the word is profit , more money to be made in the others .
If your pistol needs service The warrenty smith is here. Local shops won't service and if they do unless a approved warrenty center you may get your warrenty voided
Tell you dealer I want this pistol Will you order and make a sale or do I go else where.

Re: HELP! - Why all the Bersa trashing from gun stores?
I just picked up a new Firestorm .22 today from a small dealer here in town. Bought a Firestorm UC9 from him a couple of months ago. He's always very complimentary of Bersa/Firestorm products and their outstanding value.
And I couldn't agree MORE! ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)

Re: HELP! - Why all the Bersa trashing from gun stores?
Went to a local gun store yesterday that I had not been to in a while. They had 5 Bersas in the case and I asked what he thought about the Bersa. He said he thought they were a very under-rated gun and shot very well. He said most people never heard of this gun let alone shot one. They were a little higher in price than where I got mine from but still a better price than all the other guns he had for sale. I was really surprised to see this many Bersas in this store. They were all 380's. A lot of people don't like anything smaller than the 9mm for a carry so I figured thats why they were still there. 2 of them were used and the others were NIB. Think maybe I will go back again and take a closer look at them again. I would like to get a .22 cal Bersa sometime for playing at the range.

Re: HELP! - Why all the Bersa trashing from gun stores?
It's about money, and profit margin. There's more profit in a pistol that they can sell for $600 than a pistol that sells for half that. If they can convince you Bersa is junk, then you're more likely to buy one of their more expensive pistols.
Don't worry about the quality of your Bersa. Bersa S.A. isn't worried about it, they've given you a lifetime warranty, and they sell every gun they ship. In fact, we hear they're oversold and dealers are having a hard time finding them.

+1
I remember going into a gun shop several years ago and asked the clerk behind counter - in his late 20's to 30 by the look of him and wearing a very nice SS Combat Commander on his hip - if they ever had Bersa's/accessories (like magazines) in their stock. He said no, then proceeded to tell me of all the problems they have and how the shop wouldn't sell "inferior" quality guns like Bersa. When I asked him about his personal experience with a Bersa, he told me he'd never shot one, but his boss (the shop owner) had told him about the Bersa's. About that time the shop owner, a man in his late 50's wearing cammo shirt and pants with a beard like the ones worn by members of ZZ Top, came from the back of the store so I asked him what sort of problems he'd had with Bersa and he proceeded to tell me the same thing the clerk had. When I asked about his PERSONAL experience with a Bersa, he got a bit huffy and said he'd never owned one and never would. I started to ask him how he'd had all those bad experiences with Bersa if he'd never owned one, but I decided against it and said thank you for the info, then I left the shop. While there, I noticed there were quite a few S&W's, GLOCK's, Walther's, Kimber's, some Ruger's, SA's, Beretta's, CZ'z and a number of used pistols/revolvers by the same makers. I also noticed that most of the new guns (I didn't look that closely at the used ones) were selling for close to MSRP. I've never been back to that shop since. Anyway, I have to agree with jc40 that a lot of the prejudice against Bersa seems due to equal amounts of ignorance and greed on the part of many dealers. People who don't know any better ASSUME the dealers are experts and know what they are talking about, so they believe what the dealers say and pass it along as fact.

I bought my last one through Davidsons at galleryofguns.com and it was a joy of an experience. Unfortunately for you, however, they only sell to western states. I just checked lipseys.com, and they have a few 45s in stock and their dealer locator includes many Florida options. Check it out and maybe you can get some action. Good luck.

I don't think thats true about Davidson's selling only to western states, Carls Pawn shop is one of there listed retailers and they are on the east coast in my hometown.

Actually, it is... but it's FireStorm that's restricted. Go to their "Gun Genie" and look up the FireStorm Mini 9, for example. In the detailed description there is a category that reads:
RESTRICTIONS: Avail in western states only, ask for details.
I wish Bersa was restricted to the Western states... maybe then I could get a T40 nickel in CA! ![Smile [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif)

It doesn't make sense, it makes dollars. Remember how they bagged on Makarov's when they came out?

We are talking about the Bersa .45's not the firestorm 9mm....and it says nothing about it being restricted to the western states.
