    Slide flew down the range

I own a Bersa  mod. 83-73. I was out with the boys at the range for the first time in years. The 380 I was using has less than 100 shots fired. I found myself standing there in my firing stance shooting the gun when the strangest thing happened. The slide fractured and as result went shooting out into the range spring and all. Needless to say , I was the laughing stock at the range that night and the rule was first one with technical problems buys the beer. The gun was purchased back in 93 and has sat by my bedside rarely ever used and like I said less than 100 shots fired.

I tried to contact eagle imp. and they said they did not import the gun so they could not help me. Bottom line is this should be covered by the warranty even though its 15 yrs old, but I don't know where to go from here. Any help is appreciated. Has anyone ever heard of this happening before? I joke about this but it could have been serious. Bersa should cover this defect. Yes?

No, Bersa should not cover the defect. It had a limited time warranty, just as many things do. If I bought a new Ford Truck and parked it in my garage for 15 years and only drove it a very small amount, then one I start it and the engine blows, it is not going to be covered under warranty.

Also, Eagle Imports is not the company that imported that model of pistol, so they have no connection to it by warranty or other means.

I'm sorry for your event, and very glad it turned out ok, but I'm afraid there is nothing to do about it. The company that imported it is probably out of business or changed hands since it came into the country.

The new models do not have this problem, and they have a "Lifetime Warranty" if you do have a problem.

I'm sorry we could not be of further help.

    Thanks,

That's interesting considering the warranty certificate that came with the pistol says Eagle Imports on it. Regardless of the importer this is clearly a manufacturer defect and yes it is fifteen years old but considering it is a firearm and a deadly weapon that was maintained and not parked in garage where the seals, gaskets and fluids would fail. I would think that an honorable reputable company would make special considerations. This could have resulted in injury or death. How can it be compared to a truck?

Ok, so are there slides available for this peice that I can purchase, or do I melt it down and make a hood ornament for my 96 Ford F-250? Engine not blown.
