    Re: How old?

I was exposed to firearms at a very young age, and started shooting when I was about 6 or 7. It was a very conflicted experience however. My paternal grandfather gave me a breech loading .22/20g over under when I was about 8. I have no clue what make or model and no way to find out but I would pay dearly to have another like it. I think I would recognize it if I saw one. Adding to the mix, some of my fathers acquaintances were shall we say, less than wholesome charachters. They had some shall we say, interesting, firearms around the house from time to time. My maternal grandparents while not anti-gun, didn't approve of my exposure so I got a lot of mixed messages. For about 15 years I didn't own any firearms and only occasionally would go plinking or rabbit shooting in the desert with friends. About 8 years ago I got back into shooting a little more and after my daughter was born I bought my first handgun of my own for HD. Things um, progressed, from there. My wife now barely tolerates me and considers me a nut. We trade gun purchases for diamond and emerald purchases.

I was born in North Texas and lived in Azle when I was young, so there was plenty of open space to shoot nearby in the '70s. My paternal grandfather had a couple of different spots to go disappear to. He had a place in Leakey TX we would go camp on, another bit of land near Bandera TX and a cabin in Pipe Creek TX, but he lived with us in Azle. We would take regular trips to the hill country and shoot. My maternal grandparents built their own house in southern OK to retire to, so I spent a lot of time up there too. A cousin lived nearby and was a few years older, we would shoot a lot too. We moved to Utah when I was 9, shooting became something I only did on visits south for the most part until I was older.

Man that was long. -Cliff Notes- Big Smile [:D]

    1) Very young.

    2) Both suburban and rural.

    Re: How old?

Shot a BB gun as a kid, (maybe @ 13).  Shot a handgun @ 20.  Than finally bought a handgun 25 years later ('bout a month and a half ago).  So I shot my 2nd handgun @ 45 (a Bersa 380).  Bought my next one a month later, about...

Grew up in Suburban NJ (more urban than rural, to be sure) but spent ALL my summers in Rural NY.

    Re: How old?

I was 8 years old and lived in an urban area. I started first with my dad and then training with the Boy Scouts and progressed with my dad to hunting deer in Maine. My son handled his first firearm at age 10 and we now live in the suburbs of Philadelphia. We still hunt in Maine with the rest of the family.Hunting and firearms are all part of a right of passage with family and freinds.

    Re: How old?

I was about 15 years old.  My father was always working so the neighbor taught me how to hunt.  They was big rabbit  & pheasant hunters with beagles.  We lives in the rural area.  My first gun was a old sweet 16 double barrel Stevens.  I still have it to this day.    The neighbor said that I could only use one of the barrels to hunt with and he took time to explain the difference in the two barrels to me.  If I missed the animal it gets to live, just that simple he said.  I would have to say it made me a better shooter.

    Re: How old?

6 marlin 39A I still have it  Was given to me on 12th birthday . In those days I could buy ammo  22LR 50cents a box  I would buy a couple boxes and ride my bike out of town and shoot.  I had a BB gun at 6 also.

Grew up it town then around 30K  But escaped from  commie Ohio at 18 to freedom of Ky  A whole new world  Have spend lots of time helping other escape to freedom  across that River. .  I belive Ohio would make a nice add on to Lake Erie  I think Lake Erie and the river should join and PA and IN should have miles of beach frontage. Just don't tell those cities that start with a C all 3 of them that the valve has been opened. Smile [:)]  Then see how long all the libs can tread waterSurprise [:O]
