Okay. From 4th grade through HS graduation, we lived on a 3-acre farm
surrounded by larger farms about 5 miles out of a 45,000 person town in
SW Washington. I think I got my Daisy BB rifle in 4th grade, but like all boys of my generation, I had cap gun 6-shooters since I was about 5.
I was allowed to use my Dad's .22 bolt action around the time I turned 12. The high point of my .22 shooting was a couple of years later when I was allowed to kill a calf for slaughter - dropped it with a single shot to the forehead at about 5 yards.
At 18 (in 1965), I joined the Army Reserve where I fired my first high-powered rifle (a M-1) and qualified Expert with it - later, in AIT, I was Expert with the M-14 (semi- and full-auto), M-30 machine gun, etc., but only made Sharpshooter with the .45 pistol.
No contact with firearms between 1971 (when I was 24) and last month (I'm now 61).
