Ok, so I snuck back to Utah for the weekend and was rooting around in the safe and pulled out my black powder revolver. It was a gift from my father and I have never even purchased the necessary accoutrements to fire it. For the longest time I thought I had an 1858 NAVY, but it's a New Model ARMY. It's stainless steel, made by Pietta and sold by Traditions. Turns out they are kinda spendy too.

Anyway, has anyone here ever used a .45 LC cartridge conversion cylinder in something like this? I know the originals were often updated, is one of the new cylinders more authentic than another? There are a couple of different brands out there, is one better than another?

I have an 1858 New Model Army steel frame made by Pietta and am using the R&D coversion cylinder for .45 Colt. Bought it from Taylor's & Co. about three years ago. It works well but shoots higher than the .44 black powder ball. I have the target sights so it wasn't a problem making the adjustment.

While it wasn't cheap it works well and I haven't had any problems shooting Remington 250 grain LRN (R45C). The reason I converted it is so I could use it deer hunting. The 45LC is a legal big game cartridge here in Minnesota.

I am concerned if this is truly a drop in. Seems to me it would need to be fitted by a good gun smith  timing issues and  cly line up anong with proper cyl gap .   Just my thinking Heck I own a BP rifle and have no supplies for it and never even fired it. Its nice and price was right but not really he rifle I wanted .  I want a Ky long rifle  not a hawkins style.
