    Re: Carrying a large frame

Most of the time, I carry a Sig P-226 loaded with 18 rounds of 124gr Hydroshoks.  I definitely understand what Michael T is saying about God and John Browning, but what can I say -- I'm a pretty darned good shot with my Sig and, if I miss, I've got 17 more tries.

I carry it OWB most of the time with a relatively cheap Galco holster.  The key, though, is a good belt.  I've purchased two--one black, one brown--from The Beltman and I couldn't be more pleased.  They're nice enough to wear with a $700 suit, and do a great job supporting the heavy Sig.  The only problem was that my old Blackberry holster wouldn't fit over it due to thickness.  The new BB holster is better, though.

I only carry the Sig, though, when my wardrobe allows.  It conceals just fine at 3 O'Clock with an open button-down shirt, but it'll print otherwise, even under a hooded sweatshirt.  Then again, my own love handles might have something to do with that.

From shooting the PX4 (it was okaaaaay, but everyone has their own preference), I get the feeling that it is wider even than my Sig -- meaning that it might benefit you to look at a higher-riding holster.  Just an idea.

It's funny that I stumbled onto this thread.  I'm here because I'll be picking up a T380 so I DON'T have to carry the full-size as the only rational, non-nostril gun alternative to my Kel-Tec P32.  Good luck, and keep us all posted.

(Incidentally, Michael T. ... I'm not poo-pooing the 1911 by any means.  My gift to myself for passing the bar--on the first try, I hope--will be a Springfield long-slide.  That is, once I break the news to my wife...)

Had a Springfield come into store yesterday . Front sight flew off when shooting.. First I ever saw on a Springer. Auto Ord  used to do that a lot.

The DW line is worth a look  These are Quality pistols .  I would put them above a Springfield

HOLY PANTS!!  Those are nice looking 1911's but at $1000 they are waaaaaay out of my price range.  Don't get me wrong, I think it's a reasonable price for something that has exceptional quality, just more than I can afford or justify.  I guess if I want to go with a 1911 style I'll have to look into Rock Island.

    Re: Carrying a large frame

I don't understand how some of yall carry so much stuff on your belt, do you ever walk around feeling like BATMAN?  Leatherman, Cell Phone, Blackberry, Pistol, chapstick....  How do you not get confused and pull out the pistol when your trying to call grandma?

Too much for me, I am minamalist, S&W 640 in a pocket holster in my pocket.  Works good.   Bersa OWB when I feel like it, but normally it just the 640.

Bud's is one of the first places I looked and while their prices are better than most $929.00 for a bobtail is close enough to a grand for me to call it a grand Big Smile [:D]  Oh well, maybe when I win the lottery.

    Re: Carrying a large frame

I usually carry either a 3" or commander sized 1911 in an IWB holster (UBG Canute or Milt Sparks Summer Special II), and a 5" DoubleStack in the colder months when bulkier clothes permit it (also in a IWB holster).  I recently picked up a Comp-Tac M-TAC (1/2 Kydex, 1/2 Leather) holster and find that it has less bulk than an all leather holster.  While I know some that carry using OWB holsters, they always have to wear a cover garment... I prefer not to.  With the amount of gear that many others wear today... most sheeple don't even notice when you do print... they think its a BB or cell phone.  I also carry a S&W airweight 642 (hammerless) in the front pocket.
