Yes [Y] Ruger LCP Review and Range Report.

Ruger LCP .380 (Lightweight Compact Pistol)

    spec's

    Caliber .380

    Capacity 6 +1

    Barrel 2.75"

    weight 9.4 oz (unloaded)

    length 5.16"

    height 3.6"

    width  .82'

The frame is made of a glass injected nylon , hardened steel slide, blued. Trigger pull is 8 lbs, with a trigger pull length of .5". It is very close in make to the Kel-tek P3AT, The LCP has a Beefier ejector, Different spring and a manual slide lock ( Slide does not stay open after the last round) There is no manual Safety. Its a tad heavier than the Kel-Tec. The little Pocket pistol has a great feel and concealing it is a breeze.

Got to the range this mourning at alittle after 9:00 am, just one shooting bench left open so I set up to test the Ruger LCP. I had 100 count WWB, 50 PMC Target Load round ball, 12 hollow point reloads. I set up a target at 15 yards.

No sooner had I put the Ruger LCP on the table, one of the guys at the next bench came over and said "Those Kel-Tec's are nice little Guns." Its a Ruger I told him. "Wha...a Ruger...really? I could tell he wanted to chk it out so I handed it to him. He said.."It really has a great feel to it, did kel-Tec make the LCP for Ruger?" Nope, Ruger makes it. I think to myself ...Thats it! there has to be a lawsuit comming somewhere down the Line. "How does it shoot?..he said. I don't know I have never fired it yet. Loaded up and fired 6 shots at the target, It preformed like a dream. Trigger was stiff, the travel was long...Just how a pocket pistol should be. The trigger broke just when I thought it should and it was very accurate. I did notice that if I put my finger on in the trigger at the first nuckle, that I did even better with it. After about 24 to 30 rounds the guy that came over was still standing behind me at the bench. Do you want to shoot it? I said. "Sure...If you don't mind" he replied. The movie below is him shooting the Ruger LCP. (notice the light recoil).

click the picture to play the movie.

You need quicktime to play it, its free http://www.apple.com/quicktime/

The recoil is lighter than I thought it would be and it gets back on Target Fast. The sites are crude at best but get the job done.

I moved up to 15 feet to the target and shot 6 rounds.

Fired off 112 rounds total with the 12 hollow point reloads and no FTF or any problems at all, It ate everything I feed it. It did start to hurt the web of my hand after a while but didn't hurt my wrist at all. A range gun it is not!

Great size! and the cut and finsih is A-1

Field strip was easy and fast!

Over all I am very happy with the Ruger LCP, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a small pocket pistol.  Its perfect for a walk your dog or a quick run to the 7-11, and for a hot summer day when you want to dress light.

Re: Ruger LCP Review and Range Report.

Nice report, looks like Ruger fixed their ejection problems. The parts are not interchangeable between the KT and the Ruger, but the design was copy of KT.  Get last months copy of gun reports magazine for a full test against three other .380's.  Then the match off between Ruger and KT.

This type of range report is good for this forum, doesn't matter what side of the fence one is on, pro or con.

    Again good report!

I hope you have a pocket holster, I didn't see one in your pictures. It shows it being slid into a pocket without a holster. Please don't carry this way, get a De Santis Nemesis to cover that trigger. Forgive me if you have a holster, I just don't want to see a forum member with Ruger LegWink [;)]

If I did carry it in my front right pocket without a holster it would not have a round in the chamber. Another thing is since the LCP is so short it has a tendancy to want to lay flat in the bottom of your pocket longways, if your pocket is wide enough. Goin to chk on some pocket holsters tonight, Online. I want a UBG holster but i'm not a very pacient person. I will look at the Nemesis.

Re: Ruger LCP Review and Range Report.

I told you it was a good little gun.
Does yours bend the spent cases? or tear up the rims?  What is the pattern of ejections? like where do the spent casings land?
    Thanks

Re: Ruger LCP Review and Range Report.

I hear their doing  a sort of recall on the slide stop Seems people are having trouble with it. Check with Ruger  Doesn't effect the safety or use of pistol Just seems to many people say it gets to hot and Ruger correcting this. See they couldn't copy that from KT because we don't have on need on our Kel Tec's. Big Smile [:D]

Re: Ruger LCP Review and Range Report.

I did not notice the slide lock getting hot, but its not easy to get it to lock on the one I have...its a bear to get it to slide up to lock the slide back. Next time I take it to the range I will test about the slide stop getting hot.

I don't care if it is a copy, as long as its better than the original Smile [:)] I mean after all Kel-Tek is well know for there quality and dependability.....Not!

No one seems to have a Problem with the 1911 being copied oh lets say... about 100,000 times.
