O.K. I thought I'd rehash an old thought from an earlier post.  I was experimenting with my Mini 9 and if I slap a fresh magazine in really really hard, it will automaticaly drop the slide chambering a round.  Now I know this is a standard for the .380, but I don't know about the larger bersas.  If I could get this to happen more consistantly (and maybe with a little less exertion) I just can't see any disadvantages to It.  I mean if you don't want to chamber a round just drop the slide before you insert the mag.

 

Question, is there any way to encourage this kind of behavior or is this not good on a mini 9/UC9?

What makes this thing tick?  I can't figure this one out.

I can't get my Thunder 9 or my 9UC to do it no matter how hard I hit it. It's just a lot easier to simply pull back on the slide and let go.

The gun wasn't designed to do it, so if you can get yours to do it, maybe something's wrong with it. I don't think I'd "encourage it".

My UC9 does not do that either. I experimented until I could make it do it. I installed a used inner recoil spring and smacked the crap out of the mag. I wouldn't encourage the practice. The monkey is on its own.

I think I figured it out.  I don't think it has anything to do with the springs.  If you look at the slide there is a nitch just above the take down switch.  If the rear end of that nitch where the lock back lever takes hold has a modest amount of wear, then a simple jaring will knock loose the slide, chambering a round.  The magazine obviously has to have at least one round in it for this to work because the slide locks back when the mag is empty.  No need to put in a weak spring, actually I think it would benifit from a stronger spring since the spring pulls down on the lever.  If you like the feature on the .380, it can be safely incuraged on the UC9.  Don't over do it though you still want it to lock back after the last round consistantly, keep any purposeful wear low on the nitch, you can easily defeat the purpose of this mod if the slide does not lock back after the last round.  AT YOUR OWN RISK, YOU WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE SLIDE IF YOU SCREW UP, AND I HAVE NO DOUBT THIS WILL VOID YOUR WARNTEE.

I know I know, but it can be done, IF YOUR CAREFULL.  Hey if I ever get any bad side effects I'll let you guys know with a the post, bumbest thing I ever did with a gun. If your scared, even in the slightest don't do it, but if done right it works and it works consistantly (I've chambered at least 100-150 rounds like this with no problems).  I'll keep you guys updated and let you know how what the long term results are. 

 At the very least this may shead some light on why your Bersa reacts this way after extended use, it's just wear on the slide.  I like the feature, there is a reason why it's on some other pistols.  If anything not having it is just a safty precaution from what I know of it.

I'm not going to argue if you guys don't like it, it's a personal preferance, and I never had the warantee in the first place, I wouldn't have done it if I did.  If you did buy your Bersa with a warantee, the warantee is worth way more than any little tweak you could make on your gun.
