In Jackson County Missouri, had an 8 hour class followed by range time. 50 rounds split between revolver and semi-automatic. Next was 20 rounds for qualification needing 15 in the black to be successful.

here in NC we have a 8 hr class which includes qualifing. 3,5, and 7 yrds. 21 out of 40 had to be able to be scored

In Ohio we have a 12 hr which includes range time.  It also included lunch, breaks and a lot of wasted time.  We did it in one day which got to be a little much.  At the range, after many many repeated instructions about safety and following his commands we had one ying yang open fire when the range master asked the question "everyone understand?".  That was exciting.

Kentucky is about 25 feet and you must hit a score on the target I think is 70 %. Just walking in cold with no experience with the weapon would not be a good idea. I used my S&W .38 for the range competency and scored 100%. As part of the performance testing you must also demonstrate that you can correctly clean the weapon, which I thought was a good idea.

I got mine in Florida... 2 hour class... cattle call to range....line up outside.. eye-ears... get on range 3 @ a time... fire one shot @ about 7 feet, with unfamiliar gun.... NEXT!!!!

I would advise practicing some as well. Not just for the test but I feel people should be throughly proficient with their firearm if they are going to carry it. Some weapons require more range time then others to become good with.

When I applied for my CCW here in FL I did not have to attend the class because one of the Training documentations which will be accepted to satisfy the training requirement was; A photocopy of your military honorable discharge document or a photocopy of your DD-214.

Come on Its 21' you need to hit 11  anywhere on the standred Police silhouette.out of 20 shots.,   Their no scoreing other that 11 hits.  I help with classes sometimes   My instructor ask us to spread them around target easlier to count the holes.  Been a couple of leaglly blind  that have passed the course.  No one should ever fail a Ky Carry Class,, Even the test is open book.

 I used a unfired, untried,  Bersa Thunder .  Shot 1 handed   .  We had a good time that day . I wanted to use a cap and ball pistol But  instructor didn't want to wait  the time takes to reload those things and was a little chilly ..

In my opinion the range portion of the Ohio class, which seems to have some of the more stringent requirements, was too easy. It does make me nervous that some of the people in our class are carrying, because they were terrible shots. Hopefully they've put some practice time in since then. The instructor spent a lot of the class time trying to mentally prepare us for the consequences of firing a weapon, and the legal limitations.

On the bright side, we had a small class, and were able to have a lot of fun during our range time, since it didn't take long to get everyone through the requirements.
