While everyone has a right to own the gun of their choice and are entitled to their own opinion, you don`t come in to someones house for the first time and pee on their porch. Not very neighborly Mr. gunsofkaty, and not to smart. If you are capable of reading, you might do yourself a favor and spend sometime reading some posts here and you will see Michael T has a vast knowledge about guns and does not come off being a pompous ass like you did.Now is your chance to redeem yourself and back your words or don`t let the door hit you where the good lord split you on your way out.Just my .02.

I'm a Sig fan, but I'm also a fan of the Springfield EMP 9mm and the Springfield XD pistols.  Last weekend, I bought the XDM .40.  It shot nice, but I did have it jam on me twice in the first 50 rounds put through the gun (actually, it jammed 4 times, but 3 of them were on the same shell.)   It was factory ammo, so I'm not sure why it didn't like 2 of the rounds.  The jams were of the type where it basically failed to feed 100% into the chamber.  It was sort of like the edge of the shell got caught on the lip while feeding and prevented it from closing completely.  I hope this is something that works out or maybe I can have the throat smoothed out some.  Otherwise, I'll have to go back to the regular XD .40 with fewer rounds.  I've owned or still own, three other XDs and I've never had one jam on me before until I bought this one.

Just keep in mind that every gun from ever maker has a break in period that can be anywhere from 200 to 500 rounds, XDs and XDms are not exempt from this.

Keep shooting it and get it broke in. If after 500 rounds it is not shooting smooth as glass, send it in to Springfield and have it looked at under warranty.

I got to hold an XDm .40 today.  What a God-awful unwieldly, blocky, hunk of machinery.

    YMMV,

    Re: Springfield XDm

Hmm, I don't know. I'm interested in seeing the XD-M myself but I will be waiting till it comes out in 9mm (I like to keep most of my pistols in the same calibers, makes ammo purchases easy and less frequent). I like the original XD, felt very good in my hand although I wasn't a fan of the subcompact version (just a little too small for such a blocky design). XD-M is interesting to me, after all its likely to be a 20 round handgun which is impressive and would make shooting at the range a little more fun.

As for the glock debate, well I'm ambivalent towards Glocks. I don't hate 'em  and I don't love them. I do believe they have a very good reputation for reliability and accuracy, yes every gun will have their complainers but overall they have a solid reputation. The Glock has to have something right for them to have taken over the police departments when S&W had them locked up so tightly before. However, I agree 100% with Michael T's comment on the grip angle. When I "point" a glock (by "point" I mean holding it with one hand at my side and then raising it up to eye level) I find I have to spend an extra 1 to 2 seconds aligning the front sight with the rear sight over what I would with, say, my Colt 1911 or my Bersa Thunder 9.  The glock (any model) will always point way high naturally and then I have to consciously correct this alignment. I think that is a poor decision. Granted this angle is not new with the Glock, the Luger had essentially the same angle and I know I always point high with my Luger. The difference is I'm not going to be carrying my Luger everyday.

The other nitpicks with the Glock I would probably chalk up to personal taste. I'm not a fan of the trigger system but I don't necessarily hate it. I understand their reasoning for it. Think it would be better without but just my opinion. I guess overall I see the XD (especially the current XDs) as being what I wish the Glock's were...
