HE LP

I, like a dork, walked into my gun store and they had a Sig p-6(p-225 in the US).  Apparently, German cops are turning in their duty guns and Century picked some up and are turning them here in the US.  2 mags, holster, black sights, ALOT of holster wear.  A borelight showed FLAWLESS barrel and rifling.  Close inspection showed tight fit and , well, a Sig, from Germany.

The price out the door with tax liscense and California crapola-$400.00.

For a Sig-9mm. This was not even on my next gun list or my radar.  So is it worth it, oh gurus of Bersatalk?

Yes, they're cheaper elsewhere, but remember... it's CA.

$400 out the door isn't all that bad.  DROS is $25 (or has it gone up again?), so that's $375 for the gun (assuming you didn't also need to obtain your HSC, which is another $25, and I know at least one dealer in my area who charges a $4 "handling" fee to take care of the paperwork)... minus the 7.75% sales tax (in my area) brings the base price down to $348.

I almost bought one of those surplus P225's myself, but I couldn't get past the lousy finish.  Mint bore, yes, but maybe 70-80% condition on the exterior.  Still functionally sound, though.

In any event... YES!  Get one.  You can't go wrong with a Sig out the door for $400.  [FYI - I picked up a Sig Pro SP2009 for $399--not including tax or DROS--shortly after they were replaced by the SP2022.  I'm giving it to the stepson for a 21st b-day present... *IF* I can control the urge to shoot it myself first!!!]

And FYI - Sig has a program called the Sig Service Plan for used pistols.  See http://www.sigsauer.com/CustomerService/SSP.aspx for more info.  They'll tune up your P225 real good!   Of course, you still have to ship them the pistol and pay for the service, so you might just want to bide your time and save up for a new one.

Or you could get a brand new, shiny Bersa for probably less than your surplus P225.

Edited to add: In December '07 the P225's were selling for $380 "on sale" where I live (regular price $450).

I bought a P6 from AIM Surplus from their second offering in late Feb. The frame rails, internals and barrel were pristine (which means no discernable wear.) The slide showed some holster wear on the upper surface but 5 coats of Super Blue corrected that. The pistol looks almost brand new now. Shoots like a dream, including HP's. Cost: $259 plus shipping ($15) and FFL fee ($20) = $294 total (no tax required)

Included in the purchase was a worn out duty holster (somewhat useless to me.) But it also came with two mags. I've since bought another factory new P225 mag for $35 and won another from the big Sig forum support website. All four mags work flawlessly.

If you buy over the internet do your homework carefully. Some of the sites will only include one mag vice the two that came with the pistol from Germany.

You have an FFL who only charges $20 for transfer fees?!?  You lucky bas****!  Standard fee in my general area is $40... in addition to the DOJ fees!  Plus, if you purchase the gun from a dealer, they still charge sales tax... that's assuming you can find someone who'll accept transfer of a gun purchased from another dealer (their logic being, if you want a new gun, you can buy it from me).  Aieeeee... I'm like way jealous.

And I'm especially way jealous of an out-the-door P225 for under $300, bad finish or not!!!

But then, maybe it's a good thing... the gun safe is already filled to capacity!

Yep! I do! One of the benefits of living in Texas I suppose.

And thanks for adding "lucky" to your description of me. Most folks usually don't bother.

Bought mine a few months ago.
Don't think of the finish as worn, think of it as a beauteous patina.  These guns were worn daily, and as with most police issue, seldom fired.  Mine has a manufacture date of 1982.  It shoots all that I've put through it, both cheap range ammo and expensive SD Hollow Points, and is an accurate piece.
From my experience, and from what I've read of others, I doubt you would be disappointed in picking one up.
