    Carrying a large frame

OK, I only have two pistols, P3AT and Bersa Thunder .380cc. They are both small compare to a 1911! LOL

But I am looking to buy a larger handgun. I had my eye on the SR9 but am now going toward the PX4 Storm. Both will hold 17+1 in 9 caliber.

I want to wear this as my EDC but am concerned about it. I would like to wear it OWB at 4:00 o’clock. But I am worried about sitting and the like. For those who carry a large frame weapon, how do you guys sit at a restaurant? Does it get in the way such as clanging against the chair as you sit? Does it press outward if I just lightly bend down to look at something?

The PX4 Storm just melted in my hand today at the gun store and it is calling out my name. LOL

Can you carry a large frame at 4 o’clock all day and still be comfortable? Do you remove it so that you can drive?

Dumb question but hey, I am new at this!

    Re: Carrying a large frame

Keep it a the point of the hip, 3 o'clock and all your concerned problems will go away.  At 3 O'Clock it cams on your side with your natural sitting, standing, or walking movements.  4 o'clock would be very uncomfortable sitting. If you print who cares? 99.5% of the people won't even notice.  I have been carrying a 7" gun as of late and forget it's on most of the time.

    Re: Carrying a large frame

    Cool! Thanks for the input!

But, I tried carrying the Bersa in a cheap holster at 3 O:clock and the darn wind kept opening up my shirt! It looked funny walking through the parking lot with one stiff limp arm hanging down by my side. LOL

I guess I could rest my shooting hand on my belt or place the hand in the pocket to help hold down the flapping of my open shirt.

    Re: Carrying a large frame

I can carry a Colt Commander 4 1/4" barrel with out a problem The Gov 5" on sitting hits and isn't as comfortable. This is one reason I have been moving to the compact 1911 45's  The conceal better  to me at least. With right mags still have 7+1 of 45 in a package little bigger than Bersa Thunder.  Good holster and Belt http://ubgholsters.com  weight not really a problem.  You will get used to very quickly

    Re: Carrying a large frame

Everybody is shaped different. Do what feels best to you. A good belt is key to carrying. Almost any holster clipped a good quality belt will conceal a firarm of reasonable size. I carry an SR9 of late, but still like my Kimber Ultra-Carry, my Officer model and my M&P Compact. Thin guns conceal easier. Guns with "big Butt's" are more difficult to conceal.

I've been carrying my SR9 most days for the last few months -- full size but not too heavy - 4 o'clock OWB - no worries!

    Hi Jay1958,

4 o'clock would work, my post above I stated 4 o'clock being uncomfortable when I meant to say 2 o'clock. I read your post and the light bulb went offBig Smile [:D]  3 or 4 works fine with me.

I just got another holster last week from Nate, It holds a big banana, very comfortable after packing it about 15 hours a day since I received it.

    Take care,

Here in SW Florida I can and do carry a Taurus M44C (in shorts and Tee Shirt) snub in a soft IWB holster with no problem, on my right hip, and move it around some for driving etc.

    Re: Carrying a large frame

Truth is God and John Browning knew that man doesn't need more than 8 rounds of 45 and a 1911.  All that extra ammo just trying to make up what 1911 and 45 start at.. If I need 15 ,18 or more rounds in a hand gun. Then a rifle be a better choice to carry to start with.

Full size 1911 is thin and easy to conseal IWB or OWB  Thick grip double stack are harder. to cover.

Ok I am going to sit back and watch the fire from 9mm hicap lovers now.  You know I need that much ammo to fight the 200 bikers attacking me in the mall parking lot. Or for the 7' 10 " PCP hopped up   junky . Or what ever excuse you can never have to much ammo people dream up.

    Re: Swiss TP9

Nate at UBG makes some awesome IWB holsters for the TP9!  Just be sure to order your pants with a waist size 5-1/2 inches wider than usual...     :)

    Re: Carrying a large frame

I carry my PX4 .45 with a lasermax in one of several cc vests I have under the left armpit. I carry another pistol or revolver on the other side of these vests. But it's still cold around here. TOO HOT for summer carry.

I'm having a holster made for the PX4 .45 to accomodate the lasermax. I can't decide what type of holster yet. I was thinking tuckable ITW but the PX4 may be too big for that. Maybe strong side OTW would be better but I'm not much for the untucked look. The new holster is waiting for a dummy lasermax to arrive.

I guess in the summer I'll carry my Bersa Thunder 380 and my Beretta Tomcat in pocket holsters.

I like to ccw that PX4 though Big Smile [:D] I really like that pistol.

I used to carry my T9FS on occasion, and nowadays I carry my PT-92 on occasion.  And that PT-92 isn't any little slender svelte "hidey" gun.

Can it be done?  Sure.  My daily attire is usually jeans and either a t-shirt or a polo shirt.  Shirt tail out, IWB.  I shift the gun to about 3:30 and cant the gun forward at bit, and I place my cell phone on my belt in a nylon web holder at 3:00.  The butt of the gun kinda tucks into the curvature of my back, it's really not noticeable.  The bottom of the phone is visible and is obvious what it is, it helps break up the outline of the gun and creates a visual diversion.  Toss in my Leatherman at about 4:30 for another recognizable visual diversion that helps break up the outline of the gun.  No one is the wiser.  And it is comfortable enough for all day carry.

I'm one and the same as gb_in_ga, so add a bit over 900 to my post count...

John Browning is only dead in the same sense that Elvis is dead.  Every time I turn on the radio and strap on a 1911 they might just as well be alive.
