Re: UM #3 & #4 received today (Bersa Thunder 380 'POCKET HOLSTER' recommendations).

My Uncle Mike's pocket holsters came in today from Midway.

The Uncle Mike's #3 and #4 pocket holsters are very similar, with the #4 only slightly larger.

I purchased the #3 mainly for my J-frame revolver, but it can also be used for the standard Bersa Thunder 380!  This has been noted elsewhere in this thread.

Though the BT380 fits okay in the #3, there's a better fit with the #4.  The gun's a bit snug in the #3.  The gun appears slightly large for the design of the holster #3.

So my recommendation would be to definitely get the UM #4 for the BT380.  Product code is 8744-4.

BTW, they're nice holsters for the money.  I'm pleased.  Both enable a draw without coming out of the pocket and they're nicely constructed, and made of smooth material.

    Hope this helps.

I'm gonna pick up a Bianchi Super Fly pocket holster for my J-frame. I would rather carry a small auto in my Bianchi Bellyband. I don't like auto pocket carry. BTW, My Dad (small guy) has had no problems w the UM #2. He doesen't pocket carry often; but the sleeves serve as drawer/stash around the house. Just my experience. HTH  TJ

Re: Bersa Thunder 380 'POCKET HOLSTER' recommendations

I am currently sitting here with a standard BT 380 thunder in a Mika pocket holster. The Bersa is my around the house gun and is usually situated in my right pocket with the extra magazine in my left pocket. My uniform for around the house is a pair of loose fitting jeans and an oversized  t-shirt worn outside the jeans. Yes, the backstrap  would be peeking out , if I hadn't let my seamstress lengthen and reinforce my right pocket as I do all of my trousers and jeans. This is a very inexpensive modification and enables a much more effective pocket carry. I am also an older (65) man and I wear comfort fit jeans and dockers with some extra cloth in them. I have a seamstress because I am normal size (5'5") and cannot find any trousers in 28 1/2" inseam, so I am already getting the pants altered. I absolutely would not try this method of carry in a Speedo thong or skin tight jeans. But then I wouldn't be caught dead in either get up!

I pocket carry the Bersa or a S&W 642 (preferred social carry) . Two other things help me:

    (1) Tennessee does not require concealed carry, so if the weapon does show you are not brandishing.

    (2) Nobody expects a smiling, little 65 year old grandpa to be carrying a gun, so nobody looks!

I have an Uncle Mikes #4 for my BT-380.  If you pocket carry, you may need to hem your pockets.  Pocket in most jeans and other trousers are too deep and makes it ackward, and unsafe, to retreive easily.

I picked up a #4 the other day, and it's big enough for my 380CC to rock forward (so the barrel is parallel with the holster's front edge) and backward (so the barrel is at an angle with about an inch of gap between rear sights and holster at the top).  It seems sloppy to me, but I have no other experience with pocket holsters.

Should I "tailor" the #4 so the 380CC only fits one way (and if so, which way would be best), or is the fore-aft movement a "feature" that I just don't yet value?

Re: UM #3 & #4 received today (Bersa Thunder 380 'POCKET HOLSTER' recommendations).

My comments re the #4 related to the standard BT380 only, which is larger than the CC.  I said that I prefer #4 for the standard BT380.

I have no experience with the CC, however I know of at least one other poster who likes it in the #4.  He liked it because it was somewhat 'loose' in that pocket holster.

You might be better off with the #3 based upon your comments, above.

Instead of modifying the #4, perhaps you could return it to Midway and get the #3.  Or order a #3, keep the #4, and use it for your larger guns.  I have a Kahr CW9 that fits nicely in the #4.  There's no shortage of larger, pocketable guns that are compatible with the #4.

    rumblefish,
If you ever have the time, could you please post a single pic of the UM #3 and UM #4 alongside each other (empty) along with a ruler or other common item that establishes scale?

I understand the #3 is "smaller," but is that smaller in length, smaller in width, smaller in every dimension, or the same in a couple of areas, but different in others?

[OT content]  If I were designing a pocket holster for the 380CC, I'd want the length of the #4 but a half inch or so less width . . . . [end of OT content]

Re: UM #3 & #4 received today (Bersa Thunder 380 'POCKET HOLSTER' recommendations).

Sorry, no time to do that now, but I did take the time to place #3 atop #4.

They appear almost identical in vertical height.  The difference is nominal.

As to width, #4 with flat portion of holster facing you, it's approx. 3/4" wider looking across.  Measured it with a tape-ruler.  IOW, the #3 is smaller in width (length).  Everything else appears the same.

Re: UM #3 & #4 received today (Bersa Thunder 380 'POCKET HOLSTER' recommendations).

I was able to try both and I picked the #4 because the 380CC won't stick there at all. Sloppy is good, and it also helps to break up the "print" It is soft enough that it will leg "wrap" a bit. The #4 will never come out of your pocket when you draw. I have a DeSantis Nemises and I still like the UM 4 better. The Nemises seems too stiff anf flares out too much at the bottom, and it is open bottom where the UM is closec, which keeps the barrel clear.

Re: UM #3 & #4 received today (Bersa Thunder 380 'POCKET HOLSTER' recommendations).

I think the general consensus would be #4 for the standard BT380, and #4 if you have a CC and want it somewhat 'loose' in the holster-otherwise, get the #3.  I'd probably opt for the #3 if I had the CC.  But Specs, he's the man, likes his CC in the #4.  You apparently don't so I'd advise go with the #3.
