One reason only: Self defense.

I don't enjoy shooting them.

I have to drive almost 30 miles on way to a range.

I hate reloading the dang mags at the range.

I hate reloading revolvers at the range. (Yeah, so I'm lazy.)

I hate the prices I have to pay for guns these days.

I hate making forced choices of ammuntion between cheap and dirty or expensive and clean (well, sort of clean.)

I really have no use for guns outside of holding off the barbarous bleeps that infest our cities and towns these days. In the old days, they were satisfied with just taking your wallet. Today, they kill you so you can't pick them out of a mug book.

The "loverly" town of Gary, Indiana is just a few miles down the road from me. (This should be reason enuf for owning a gun.)

I really enjoy shooting, but I also own guns for investments. Seems like most guns do pretty well holding their value.

I choose #2, #3 & #4 combined.  Might just as well toss #1 in there too. Of all the guns I have purchased, I've only sold one of them.

I own guns because I enjoy every aspect of them. The engineering, science and history behind them fascinates me, and the artistry in wood and metal intrigues me. Internal, external, and terminal ballistics are more than a hobby, they're a passion, and a path of intense study.

I was raised in a gun owning family and started handloading back in the 70's when I was just a kid. I grow, change, and redefine myself constantly, based on my current interest in firearms. One year it's target competition, the next it's hunting, the one after, I'm a collector, the next it's historic guns or muzzleloader reenactments. There's so many facets that it's almost impossible to cover them all. 

Self defense is an important aspect to me, but it's by far not the reason I own them. I was very deeply into guns long before I was old enough to need to worry about self defense.

I chose other. the reason, because I make my living with firearms and have most of my life, either LE or Military or as a Gunsmith, but I have always hunted.

My reason is simple, I am an AMERICAN citizen and as has been said before, that certain rights are given by God, and our Constitution lists one I hold very dear as it ensures that the common man can fight to keep the rights God has given him, and that is the Second Amendment of our great Constitution of The United States of America.

I own firearms because I can. Its my right, and if you don't exercise your rights you end
up loosing them. I conceal carry  because I  qualify to do so.
The world is much different today than before, I believe its more violent and one must be prepared at all times.

Besides its fun to irritate the liberals, democrats and anti-gun nuts. But I guess the anti-gun nuts are the liberal democrats.

This was a really tough question. Almost not fair to only get on choice. I was raised in a house as a kid with so many guns. All of which were loaded and not in any safe. I know right from the word go to never touch them with out my Dad or Grandfather with me. Dad was a gun collector while Grandpa was a big time hunter so I had all aspects of both interests. I of course had a few as a kid ( 410 Winchester, 22 H&R. rifle and one SW 32. ) never touched them with out permission to do so. Went hunting some times but not that much. Back then they just did not mean that much to me. I always admired the older weapons, collector items with a real love for ones that had been handed down through the years in the family such as my great grandfathers model 76 Remington 12 Ga. Pump that he bought new in 1919. I have an uncle, a former Vietnam Vet, that I had always considered an over the top extremist when it came to how he lives, the weapons he carries and so forth. As a late teen till my mid 30’s I considered Him and others like him to be way outside the box. But as so many others have said here before “are world is changing” long gone is the days of two men having a fist fight and then just going home. Now CCW holders or not, guns play a major roll. Small town America sees a lot of violence that was un-heard of in the 70s and 80’s. The statement of inner city crime only happens in the big city’s is long gone. So now self-defense is an issue with me. It really saddens me to feel that I have to carry a pistol for self-defense. That is something just a few years ago I would have never believed I would do. But so is my love for the history of Firearms and over the past few years I have gone back to basics with a renewed and higher then ever interest in hunting. I think maybe that is because hunting takes one back to basics, back to a time in our lives when at every traffic light we were not looking for a possible BG to try and jump in our cars. Last but not least, is “ As an American citizen, I have a right under our constitution to own, convey and posses firearms.” A lot of great people died to protect that and other rights for my fellow American’s and me. I believe that if we let the liberals remove all the firearms from the people of this great nation that we become their puppets. I believe we would be paying more then a tax on some tea with out representation. I feel all rights we have as Americans would be stripped away from us in due time. What really makes me sick though is this. In the face of an extreme crises such as 911 or a natural deserter such as a hurricane. I don’t break out all my shells and load up every firearm I own because I am afraid that some terrorist will be coming through my front door to cause me and my family any undue harm. (Although that is possible) I can’t see some evil country or radical group dropping a bomb in the middle of corn town USA. But because of other Americans or illegal people in this country will attempt to rob, loot or other wise cause my family and me harm. Now, that makes me sick to my stomach that I now live in a place that makes me feel like that. I am just thankful to God that he so blessed me to be born here in the USA and can not even begin to wonder what it must be like to live in some third rate place like billions of others do. At the rate I am going as the decades pass, soon like my uncle I will have a fully stocked bomb shelter under ground as well. Never thought I would really feel this way.

Definately personal protection. As we get older home invasion is my greatest concern. We also enjoy shooting at local ranges.

It's a combination being raised with guns and a father who hunted religiously. I hunt whitetail yearly with my son. Definately self defense cause we don't live in the 50's or 60's anymore. And I enjoy a good firearm.
