Mine was about 4 1/2 weeks in Georgia, but it took a while to get started.  It was almost 2 weeks of trying before I got finger printed.  The person at the sheriff's office that I needed to see was always "out of the office and should be back any minute".  Evidently "any minute" doesn't mean soon.

My father-out-law just received his in Tennessee in about 4 weeks.

Colorado must issue within 90 days. Mine took 87.

Mine took one week but I am in the military and my M16 qualification seemed to really speed up the process.

Ocala Guy,  it's kind of a long story, but the day I went to get my prints done electronically, there was a person working there who is not the regular.  She gave me faulty instructions and long story short, they are processing it the old fashioned way. 

JC40, I have called there and they tell me they are still waiting on my prints from the FBI.  My uncle sent his in 2 weeks after me and has had his permit about 3 weeks now.  My wife sent hers in about a month after me and they said they are issuing her permit and we should receive it this week.  Both submitted electronically and did it correctly after seeing my mistake.

Alabama is not a "shall issue" state.. up to the county Sheriff...

In my case it took: 

 10 minutes to fill out the form

15 minutes to find 3 friends to sign form: "vouch" for me*

20 minutes to drive to the county court house

15 minutes for the clerk to run an online background check, take my picture, me to sign it and walk out the door with my Pistol License (oh yeah, I had to give her $30).

So that was a total of 1 hour from start to finish...

Renewels take about 10 minutes not including the drive... (this year, my wife got her Pistol License so the cost for hers and my renewel was $60)

 

*that was the hardest part..finding 3 friends

Florida - 13 days for mine. I was a little worried about the clarity of my old DD-214 copy (a little hard to read), but apparently it was not a problem. I also did the electronic fingerprinting. I think that helped speed things along.

Here is a breakdown of the typical Arkansas system.  Took class around Oct. 25ish. About $60 for the class, $125 for the state filing fees.  Sent my two sets of prints that looked great.  They sent my prints back after about a month saying they were unusable.  So I go to the State Police and have them do them.  Somehow the really smeared prints were fine.  Finally got the permit Jan 19.  I wish we had the option of online filing, but here in Arkansas we are on the trailing edge of technology.  Also the "class" was a joke we watched a corny video then the instructor read the state laws of a page we all had right in front of us, then we had to put ten holes in a piece of paper.  Oh and it didn't matter how many tries it took to get those ten holes in the paper.

Luke,sorry to hear you are having to wait this long for your permit.Back when i had my prints done,there was no electronic fingerprints being done and i had my permit in less than thirty days.I can`t understand why the FBI would be so slow in getting your prints back to the department of agriculture so they can issue you your permit.Just my opinion,but you may want to call the FBI`s office to see if there is a problem,or maybe the person taking your prints messed things up by mistake.Just my .02 .Good luck.I know the wait is frustrating.

I just called again to find out when the prints were sent to the FBI and found out my permit was issued and I should get it in the mail in the next few days.  FINALLY!

Here in Arkansas, it took about 60 days to receive mine. And shipleyj is correct, the class was a joke. I could have slept through the one I attend and still have been certified.
