How long to get a CCW in your state?

This is in WA state. I was told up to 30 days, but I got mine about 4 days later. Cost $60 for the new issue.  Just had to fingerprints and a background check. How about you guys and gals in Bersaland?

This is a multicultural home. I have Argentinian guns, Brazilian guns, Russian guns, Yugoslavian guns...

Re: How long to get a CCW in your state?

Interestingly enough, in North Carolina, each County Sheriff issues the CCW, so how long it takes depends on how 'gun owner friendly' the local sheriff is!!  Believe it or not...!

In my county, the sheriff is so 'gun owner friendly' that he sets up a table (manned by volunteers, not the sheriff himself or anyone in his department) at local gun shows!  Doesn't sell anything, it's more of a PR thing to remind gun show attendees who to vote for.  Smile [:)]

So here in this 'friendly' county, I got my CCW in just two weeks after I turned in my training class certificate, paid the $90 and had my fingerprints taken.  There is another 'friendly' county adjoining ours, and I've heard they issue in 3-4 weeks.

State law requires local sheriffs to issue the permit (or denial of permit) within 90 days.  There are two adjoining counties where the sheriff is VERY gun owner UNFRIENDLY.  In those counties, they generally issue at about 85 days!  They hold them as long as they can because the local sheriff really doesn't want to issue them at all.

Kind of sucks, but at least it's a SHALL ISSUE state!

Re: How long to get a CCW in your state?

In Utah they say they try to get approved applications issued in 60 days, but they're actually closer to 75. I filed my application around April 24, 2006 and my CFP was issued on July 7. There's a backlog because non-residents have found Utah's permit is recongnized in many other states and the requirements are easily met, and it's also relatively inexpensive. I noticed a recent editorial in the Salt Lake Tribune about the fees charged don't cover the actual cost and so the fees should be raised and blah blah blah.

In Texas it was around 45 days the first time and 60 days recently for the renewal.

I'm still waiting for mine, I sent in the application 3/3, I've yet to hear from them. One of the fellas from the gun shop said he got his in 45 minutes, but I guess that his county is gun friendly. It did not state on the form how long the process would take. So hopefully I will hear from them soon.

I'm a little confused about the question.

Doesn't CCW mean- conceal carry weapon?

Aren't you asking about how long it takes to get a permit?

Re: How long to get a CCW in your state?

For my wife and I in Georgia it took about 80 days total till we received them in the mail and even then hers came a few days before mine.  I must say when I saw hers but not mine I was a little anxious.  Applying for it was super easy, just fill out the form and card and get fingerprinted by the GBI.  My wife was a little surprised they didn't require an kind of class or formal training.  I think a class wouldn't be a bad idea, but I'm leary of anymore red tape.  80 days goes by really slowly.

Re: How long to get a CCW in your state?

Luke, I'm curious as to whether you sent your prints in on the old fashioned card or had them electronically sent.

Fla is a "shall issue state" and if there is no problem with your application you are supposed to have it in NLT 90 days.  The application says that sending them electronically substantually reduces the processing time.  I have heard that if you electronically transmit it may only take as little as 2 to 3 weeks.  Not every county in Fla. electronically submits, mine, (Marion) does not.  I purposely rode about 35 miles to the nearest other county seat that does (Levy county) to have mine electronically sent just for the time reduction factor.  Will let you know, mine went in the mail a week from this past Tuesday.

Re: How long to get a CCW in your state?

CCW is an acronym that stands for Concealed Carry Weapon literally, but is also used as shorthand for "Concealed Carry Weapons permit".

Kind of like when you see the word "Men" or "Women" in a restaurant.  All the men and women aren't really supposed to congregate and gather there.  The word "restroom" is implied, but not usually spelled out.

Re: How long to get a CCW in your state?

After I prepared my application, photo, prints, etc., I had my license 13 days from the day I mailed it.

Here in Florida we are licensed to conceal/carry any, legal, weapon(s) we desire.
