My buddy took the CHL certification class the same time I did.  He applied for his CHL the following Monday, and I applied the week after.  His took 10 business days to receive and mine took 10 total days.  We're in NW Ohio

Re: How long to get a CCW in your state?

Well, we're about to find out. My wife and I both completed the CCW class last Saturday and submitted our TN applications yesterday. I'll post back when they arrive. They only promise "within 90 days". But applications are up 30% in 2008 over 2007.

EDIT: Application fee was $115 per person including fingerprinting. A permit is good for 4 years in TN and renewals are currently $50.

And finally, one piece of mail today, and it's here!  114 days.

(In Texas, it's a Concealed Handgun License, or 'CHL'.)

In Houston County, GA they say it takes 2 weeks. I applied this morning $40 app fee plus finger prints are all that's required. The lady at the County Sheriff office said it would take about 10 days to receive my CCL in the mail. I'll let ya'll know when it's received.

Re: How long to get a CCW in your state?

In Jackson County Missouri, they have 45 days to act on your application. With that in mind, both my wife and I got fingerprinted and turned in the application and were called to pick up our CCW in 14 days. It cost $100.00 to the sheriffs department for fingerprints and processing plus I think $11.00 to the license department for the actual CCW card. It is good for 3 years. Total expenditure was $135.00 for the required class and $111.00 for everything else call it an even $246.00. Then a lot more for all necessary equipment and practice ammo. Well worth every penny!

Have a safe and happy 4th of July, and remember to thank a service member for what they have done for all of us!

Erie County PA you have to pay in cash.  I agree about the fingerprinting sucking.  I am not sure if I'd rather have that over the picture that they took.  Blech!  But yeah, we've got it pretty easy here to carry.

What a great post, I wish we had some sort of list of what all these acronyms means.  It is quite confusing unless one is a internet junkie, which I am not.  Navet

It took mine 10 days in KY. They don't do fingerprints here, either.

Re: How long to get a CCW in your state?

GEEZE.  over 100-DAYS on some of these?  wow!

time to get on my county sheriff's website, find the form, open it up and print it out:  about 45-seconds

fill out the one-page form:  about 5-minutes

take the form into my local bank to get notarized:  about 10-minutes

go to the local sheriff's office, let to them do an instant background check, take my pic, take my check ($30/yr), then print off my ID card:  about 15-minutes.

    not bad at all...
