    New Guy With Question

I just joined the site and I have a Firestorm .380 and it has about 600 rounds through it and a little spring broke in the handle rendering the gun useless right before a qualifying test for a training class I was taking. That's bad in of itself, but my main concern is will this happen again and keep it from going bang if I need it in a more ominous situation. Has anybody experienced this failure? I'm not feeling real good about the gun now and I'm thinking of dumping it.

    Re: New Guy With Question

I have the Bersa version and it happened to me.  The warranty center fixed it and I haven't had a problem since.  Go to the Tech Talk section and read the post at the top on how to ship it to Colorado Gun Works.  They'll get it up and running and it'll work great.

    Re: New Guy With Question

    Hey JD,

Same thing happened to me after about 450 rounds, and a couple others have reported it also.  My understanding is that the springs the factory uses aren't all that great.  Royce at CGW replaces these springs (under warranty, of course) with a more robust spring so it shouldn't happen again.  I got my .380 back at my front door in about a week, they do great work.

Welcome aboard !!  There's a ton of knowledge around here and more than enough goofiness too.

    Re: New Guy With Question

Thanks for your reply. I already took it to Gander Mountain as they are a listed warranty center. I talked to the gunsmith this evening and he said he would have to order a spring from Bersa. I wish I would have read your post before I took it there because is now appears I'm likely to get the same week spring put back in it. I guess I was a little impatient but it is my summer carry piece. Kind of hard to conceal a Ruger P944 during the summer.

    Re: New Guy With Question

Ahhh, I'm sorry I didn't warn you about Gander Mountain.  That's where I took mine and while they did get it fixed it took them a long time.  If I ever have need to have it fixed again I will send it to Colorado Gun Works as they will probably have the parts in stock and they seem to have a pretty fast turnaround time.

    Re: New Guy With Question

After 3 weeks of waiting, I got to the point that I was going to take my gun out of Gander Mountain and send it to CGW. The gunsmith just happened to find the spring on the desk and said he would have it done today. I went and picked it up and I got a bill for 29.95. I said, this should be under warranty. The gunsmith said we don't do warranty work for Bersa. I said that Bersa says you do. He was adamant they didn't do warranty work for Bersa and I was going to have to take it up with them. I then pointed to the sign that was behind him that said they an authorized repair center. He then reluctantly voided the invoice and gave me my gun. Needless to say, I think you know what my chances of buying a gun there or taking one there for repair.

    Re: New Guy With Question

Eagle Imports has a list of Gander Mountain Bersa Service centers. Here's a link: http://www.bersafirearmsusa.com/gander_list.php

So they are supposed to do service.

But I think you would be well advised to just send your gun to CGW. The contact information is at the top of the Tech Talk Forum page.
