Took the new BT 45 UC to the range yesterday for the first time. I fired about 200 rounds, mostly Remington UMC 230 Gr. FMJ but also fired some Wolf that was given to me by a friend. Had one FTF with the first mag. and one more with the second mag. Both fed with a quick push of the magazine release and re-seat of the mag. After that not a single stoppage and the 45 performed well with the UMC. Groups were 3 to 3 ½ in. at 7 yards off hand and 5 in. at 25 yards using a bench rest. As for the Wolf, not worth the cost of the box it came in! While it didn’t cause any FTE or FTF it was horribly inaccurate. I was only able to get 8 in. groups at 25 yards using a bench rest and it grouped very low to the left. Just to rule out fatigue I had my friend try it and he had the same result. As for recoil, the BT 45 UC has just a touch more than my BT 380 with Remington UMC 95 Gr. FMJ. My friend also let me try his Springer XD 45 for comparison and I wasn’t able to get any better groups than with the UC 45. Overall I’m VERY pleased with the UC and am sure my shooting will get better the more I shoot it.
Now for you recoil junkies. I also took my new Browning BPS 10 Ga. to the range for the first time with a box of 5 Federal Power-Shock 3 1/2 in. 1 ¾ oz. Magnum deer slugs. Federal says these things have a muzzle velocity of 1280 FPS. I fired two and my friend fired one at a 50 yd. target using a bench rest. My two holes were 3 in. high but were touching each other and his shot was 3 in. low. Even though this gun weighs over 11 lbs loaded the recoil was MASSIVE and neither one of us wanted another shot since we were only wearing T-shirts. It was fun watching the dirt fly about 10 feet in the air as the slugs slammed into the hill down range though.
