Hmm, I don't know. I'm interested in seeing the XD-M myself but I will be waiting till it comes out in 9mm (I like to keep most of my pistols in the same calibers, makes ammo purchases easy and less frequent). I like the original XD, felt very good in my hand although I wasn't a fan of the subcompact version (just a little too small for such a blocky design). XD-M is interesting to me, after all its likely to be a 20 round handgun which is impressive and would make shooting at the range a little more fun.
As for the glock debate, well I'm ambivalent towards Glocks. I don't hate 'em and I don't love them. I do believe they have a very good reputation for reliability and accuracy, yes every gun will have their complainers but overall they have a solid reputation. The Glock has to have something right for them to have taken over the police departments when S&W had them locked up so tightly before. However, I agree 100% with Michael T's comment on the grip angle. When I "point" a glock (by "point" I mean holding it with one hand at my side and then raising it up to eye level) I find I have to spend an extra 1 to 2 seconds aligning the front sight with the rear sight over what I would with, say, my Colt 1911 or my Bersa Thunder 9. The glock (any model) will always point way high naturally and then I have to consciously correct this alignment. I think that is a poor decision. Granted this angle is not new with the Glock, the Luger had essentially the same angle and I know I always point high with my Luger. The difference is I'm not going to be carrying my Luger everyday.
The other nitpicks with the Glock I would probably chalk up to personal taste. I'm not a fan of the trigger system but I don't necessarily hate it. I understand their reasoning for it. Think it would be better without but just my opinion. I guess overall I see the XD (especially the current XDs) as being what I wish the Glock's were...
