Re: Poll: Why do you own guns?

Two news items yesterday seemed to demonstrate the value of not only owning a gun but being allowed to carry it.

The first was the news that the crime rate in Florida has dropped again and is at the lowest level since 1971.  Needless to say, the population of Florida has grown significantly since then.  Governor Bush attributed the drop, in part, to the concealed carry law in Florida, including the recently passed deadly force provision.

The second was the declaration of a crime emergency in Washington, D. C.  The murder, assault, and robbery rate has increased significantly.  This is a city where residents are not allowed to have guns (it may be just handguns).

I selected personal protection as the primary reason.  However, two secondary reasons are:  1. My wife and I are concerned that the anti-gun folks may succeed in outlawing guns or at least in making it much more difficult for law-abiding citizens to own them.  2. We live in Florida and are subject to the vagaries of the weather.  If severe damage occurs in our area, chaos may not be far behind.  I want to be prepared in all ways.  After Katrina, I am more than ever aware that we can only depend on ourselves.

Because it's an addiction, because one is not enough, because I love shooting, wait you said one reason. Because my dad introduced me to them when I was little and they have intrigued me ever since. :)

Exactly my reasons, Bull. My dad started me young and I was handloading by the time I was 12. It's been an addiction and a passion ever since.

I guess it was either crack or guns. At least I can always sell the guns. Once ou do crack it's hard to sell it again.

To begin with its my second amendmant right. Secondly there is nothing I like better than going outside and unlaoding 30 rounds of ammo out of my AK as fast as I can pull the trigger. Then there is the safety factor. If they get by the dogs, surely the front door isnt going to stop them. I assure my mossberg 500a full of  buckshot will. And I really feel tough with my T380 in my waistline, my shotgun strapped on my back and my AK in my hands. Would mess with a man dressed like that?

I answer primarly for self defense, but all apply.  Self presevation for myself and my wife and kids is the upmost importance to myself, I have hand to hand combat training and I also have a couple of pit bulls running around just to discourage any stupid people but idiots and criminals will often amaze you.....

When I was younger I used to hunt a great deal, I got my first when I was about 12, I have always enjoyed shooting and need the practice for my yearly qualifications in the Navy Reserve.  The self defense aspect has always been a side benefit so to say.

Re: Poll: Why do you own guns?

    Because we are American!

    I"ve been shooting since i was 6

My uncle let me shoot my first handgun and machine gun. I loved it ever since. stamp [gun nut] on my forehead

When i was in the army, some of the people didn't want to participate in the training shoots, I made them give me all their magazines, shot to my hearts content. Luck would have it there was no wars while I was in. Since they upped the age to re-enlist, i've been musing about it.

Lately I just practice to be a better shot. Thinking about joining the local bullseye league. Carry my Bersa 380

We are Americans! And damn it, we love our guns!

Re: Poll: Why do you own guns?

    1.I enjoy shooting
2.I enjoy the comfort in knowing it's in my home
3.It's my RIGHT as an American and if more Americans own guns, it's harder for the liberals to take     them away

Re: Poll: Why do you own guns?

I carry a gun because of all the crimes that are commited by criminals that carry guns who are not licensed to do so, and they may decide to target me someday in a violent manner. It is my right to carry and I have a Permit to do so. If they target me they will be supprised  when they end up looking at the end of the barrel of my 45, if I give them the time too do so!

Re: Poll: Why do you own guns?

The main reason is protection of self and family. Secondary is the very real possibility of liberals taking away our right to buy guns. The world is a crazy place and you never know what situation you may wind up in. I would rather be prepared for any situation that comes along.

Re: Poll: Why do you own guns?

Looks like I missed this pole while I was away.

    My reasons are many.
The Constitution Says I have the right first and foremost.
Self Defense/CCW, and with this the hope that I never have to use it.
    Target practice, etc.

There is a saying. I would rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

The FBI has given proof that crime goes down when more law abiding people have guns.

But some Politicians that we all love to hate refuse to listen to the reports that come from their own trusted departments.

We all know in this day, it is up to us to protect ourselves, because the police can not be every where.

Last I read there were less than 500.000 law enforcement officers in this country. and 300 million people. Do the math. We HAVE to protect ourselves.

And as you all know. Hillery is running for Pres in 2008 so lets be sure she does not make it. Obama either. He hates guns from what I hear more that she does. Funny how none of them would have their security without them though.
    God Bless The USA
