Ever since I got my permit, I haven't looked back. I work for a large company, but luckily there are no restrictions to make us feel safe. So it's never been a question to me. Less than a handful of people I work with know that I carry (in a company with a few hundred engineers), and I like to keep it that way. I *do* encourage them to get permits even if they never intend to carry. When it comes to political games, the number of permit-holders can be intimidating to gun-grabbers.
There was a recent incident lately with some threats from a disgruntled employee. It never panned out, but I did carry my "backup gun" for a while as well: a Taurus Model 65 .357 in my laptop bag. Security's been beefed up a bit, but we still have the unarmed Barney Fife security guard. Not much comfort there.
What's funny is that all of us smokers have been moved to a gazebo area near the main entrance. Other smokers quip about how some nut with a gun and a mission would take out the smokers first before moving into the main building. I just smile and nod, all the while thinking "not me, pal."
