Scopes on everything but SHTF rifles.  Thinking about a removable scope on the Saiga 223 so I can stretch it out.

My Mini 14 Open sights,  same with my AR-15 M-4

But some guns scream for a scope. Like my NRA standing silhouette match pistol.

    Depends,

Hunting rifle has a scope because I hate seeing deer able to run after being shot.

Most of my mil-surps don't however I have a scope on my Mosin-Nagant and with good ammo I can shoot some tight groups.  (I didn't modify the gun... just bought a scope mount that screws in... so I can still bring it back to original status).

Iron sights.  I am not a hunter, so all my long guns are just for range use and self-defense / SHTF.  Scopes are generally not durable enough for SHTF work, especially since I don't foresee myself ever having a need for 'sniper' capability, or any likely reason to have to reach out much beyond 100 yards in a defensive or SHTF scenario.

For shorter shots like found in areas with heavy foliage, I prefer open sights.  Longer shots and it's scope all the way.
Make em sharp and shoot em straight, or leave em home.

Same here, I really don't have anything other than a .22LR that could accept a sight at this point. I'm sure I would fully apreciate a good teloscopic sight if I had a rifle could really use one. Have been drooling over the Kel-Tek SU-16, might have to get one for that if I can afford it before SHTF. A folding, integral bipod toating, m16 mag accepting, survival rifle.....makes me wonder why I still own a TV/Sterio/movie colection and other such sellable items. I may be tempted to take sights at any light blue helmets I seen roaming around my vicinity.

Old? Scope on big game hunting. At 200 300 400 500 yards, good luck with iron sights. Now if i squirrel hunt with 22L rifle, i shoot iron just for chalenge (fun).

    Re: Scope or Open Sights

A scope is great on 22 for shooting squirrels, head shots only, doesn't mess up the meat.  Now if you are going for the delicacy of squirrel brains, you don't want head shots?  Sure takes a mess of squirrels for much of a meal of brains.Big Smile [:D]

200 300 400 500 yards, And where in MS do you do these shots. Also what do you consider  big game.   Most people don't hunt elk or moose . Unless their rich , write for a rag. or happen to live in area. In my area a deer at maybe 200 yds  since I don't use a scope  I would pass on shot.

I see no sport in shooting  game at 400 or 500 yds You could move closer  or pass  .

A very nice power line, and paper company clear cuts. matter of fact we just had a new cut, will be hunting on next year. But your right m.t most of ms. hunting is thick cutover or hardwoods. Matter of fact, almost every big buck I've taken has been hardwoods and in the a.m. One 130 class deer in a open cutover. We have a nice power line stand, easy chair, all metal..nap stand. 500 yard shot is there if offered .Hell 1000 yards there if i pass boundary line.Thank you scopes and binoculars.  330 yrd my longest buck shot..buck only hunter. Im A+ scopes.
