I called recently to the State department of Agriculture and the first call said within 90 days (Florida) and the when I called back to ask if they could confirm if they received the application and they said "No!" I said I sent it signature return confirmation and she then informed me, That the mail room which handles that some times doesn't get those return tickets back out for 30 days, She said since the recent flux of applications sent it the wait could well be 120 days or longer now..

I said what happened to the required 90 day turn around..

She said "We make the rules and can adjust them as we need too!".. So if your waiting on a FL CCW, Then grab a movie or several hundred and sit back and Wait!!  Or else forget about it and if your approved then it will surprise you when it comes in..

I sure do hope mine made it..

They need more qualified people working there..

They only have 2 employees handling all of the CWPs here in SC

I live in Indiana, but had a similar experience to MustangAddict.
It took 5 days for me to get the form submitted and fingerprinted, then it took a week, yeah 7 days, for me to catch the Police Chief in to get my lecture and approval to submit the paperwork to the state. Every time I went there, during regular office hours(which cost me 27$ an hour in overtime to be there during "Their" office hours) the guy had gone home early.
I finally got a little stern and asked If I could make an appointment or something. The next day he made time for me.So after a total run around time of 2 weeks, I finally got all the appropriate paperwork
to submit my request to the state police (request...that is such BS, I have a constitutional right man)
for a permit aka licence to carry a handgun. One gets the distinct feeling that they REALLY don't
want to allow you to have one.
  Ok I digress...
Anyway finally submitted to State Police on the 18th, and now I wait. Can take as much as 60 days here
according to the documentation. I'm guessing i will be cooling my heels for 59 days. Grrrrr

 

Indiana is a "shall issue" state, I live in rural Madison County and I went to the Madison Co. Sherriff's office to apply. $75 to the State, $50 to the Sherriff, and a 33 day wait, and I had my LIFETIME personal protection permit. I hear that the state is granting 4 year permits in 2 weeks, and are trying to do away with the lifetime permits, due to the loss of renewal revenue, so maybe my timing was perfect.

I didn't have to attend a lecture, or a safety course, just had to submit the application, get fingerprinted & pay the fees.

I live in Michigan.  Took my CPL class on 10/06 and got my license on 11/06.  One month which is not the norm.  Had to take an 8 hour class, make an appt. to get finger printed and then submit paperwork.  I was shocked that it went so fast.

Florida says 90 days but I am over that now due to having to re-do my prints. Watching the mailbox daily now...

North Carolina is 90 days after you visit the sheriffs dept. But before that you got to take the CCH class and pass - which I scored a 98 on the written and 100 on the range. The class was 150.00 and I took it in early September then called the sheriff to get an appointment which is Dec. 4th. and 90 days after the 4th of  Dec. I should get it. Just glad I did it when I did cause now -w- osama headin to the office its gotten nuts! So if all goes well it will be bout 7 months or so. WOW! Then again if I lived in a smaller town & diff county it would be real fast but I live in Charlotte the biggest city in N.C.

if you are a veteran, it's a breeze in Michigan, all you need is a couple passport-type photos.

otherwise you fork over about $150.00 for a class, the photos, and being tested on the shooting range to make sure you know which end the bullet comes out.

once you have a CCW, you no longer need to apply for a permit that you then carry to the gun dealer every time you want to purchase a handgun, just go ahead and "Git 'Er Done"!

A Federal Firearms license allows you to have a full auto, this requires a reccomend from a local business person, preferrably a gun dealer. Plus some money, I am sure.

Both of the above require a clean rap sheet, no felonies, no domestic abuse or stalking convictions, nor can you have ever been adjudged mentally incompetent by a court of law.

to see who does NOT pass muster in your neighborhood, go to http://www.felonspy.com and type in your address, nearest town and state. be prepared to be shocked. I am surrounded by felons, everything from child molestation to arson, to assault (vehicular seems big up here), kidnapping, burglary, sodomy, on and on and on.

at least I now know their names, and approximately where they live.

Kentucky is a "shall issue" state and it takes about 6 to 8 weeks to go through the entire process of taking the training course, getting the certificate of completion and then applying with the local county sheriff then waiting for background checks on your application.

GA varies but state requires issue in 60 days unless rejected for cause.  Mine took 3 days and $39 but that is because we have a carry friendly Probate Judge and she moves things along.  Other counties are not so lucky and I've heard of 60 days even though the required checks were completed well before.
