Does the Thunder 9 UC hold 10 or 13 rounds???
Hey I know this is a stupid question, but I was looking at my local shop's web site, and they have one listed as 13 rounds and the other as 10. I am guessing the 13 is a typo, but I was just wanting to make sure.
Here are the links 10 rounds http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/21_178/products_id/34017 13 rounds http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/21_178/products_id/26467
Thanks guys.

Both are correct. You can buy the "10 round version" or the "13 Round Version" They are the same gun but have different magazines. I believe this started with the Clinton era ban on "High Capacity Mags" and Bersa still sells them. You could not sell guns with a Mag capacity over 10 rounds and I think that still holds true in Cal.

I was interested in this too. So if I understand correctly one could buy the 10 round version and then get 13 round magazines for it? My local dealer tends to only carry the 10 round version.

Yes...That is my understanding. The gun is the same, either mag will work in it.

This is 100% correct. Either magazine - 9 or 13 round - will work in any UC-9. All new Bersa UC-9's currently come with 13 rd mags (actually, you now get two magazines with the UC-9, though it depends on whether your dealer got his last shipment in before or after August of last year) UNLESS you live in a state like Kalifornia that restricts mag capacity to 10 rds or less. If you buy any Thunder 9 full size or compact pistol and it comes with a 10 rd magazine, you either have a gun imported during the Clinton AWB era (9/'94 - 9/'04) or it was intended for sale in a state with a magazine capacity limit. If you don't know already, you need to check and see if your state restricts magazine capicity. If it does, that's all you can get.

Also, the FS 9 17 rnd magazine will work in the UC9 but will protrude a bit from the bottom of the grip. Just something to consider when buying spare mags. I use a FS 9 mag as my backup mag for my UC9 when I CCW it.

That is not a stupid question my friend, it is a good question, I have heard that the 13 round mag is a little bit better because it gives a rest area for your pinkie, for whatever that is worth. Amvet

The 10 & 13 round mags have the same pinkie rest. The difference is the follower, you cant get as many rounds in the mag.

Re: Does the Thunder 9 UC hold 10 or 13 rounds???
+1 Aside from holding more rounds, Bersa 13 rd magazines seem less likely to bind or have other problems than 10 round ones, though I will point out any sort of problem happens VERY seldom with either magazine. My guess is it has to do with the material the followers are made of... metal vs. plastic. BTW, the easiest (and quickest) way to tell a 10 round mag from a 13 round Bersa UC magazine is to look at the magazine follower. A Bersa UC-9 13 rd magazine's follower is chromed/polished metal while the 10 rd mag's follower is black plastic. Otherwise, they look exactly the same. A polished metal-on-metal follower is less likely to "grab" than a plastic-on-metal one and a metal follower is also less likely to scrarch or deform than plastic. Actually, it may be one reason there are more feeding problems with the UC-45... they have a plastic follower instead of metal followers like other Bersa's, including the 380. FWIW full size T-9 magazines are longer by 3/4" than UC-9 magazines, but they will work in both models, while compact mags will NOT work in the larger guns. Also, pre/post Clinton AWB era mags for the T-9 hold 17 rds while the Clinton era magazines ~ and those sent to states like Kalifornia with magazine limits ~ hold only 10 rds.

Re: Does the Thunder 9 UC hold 10 or 13 rounds???
I've been wondering the same. This answers my question as well...for the most part. I'd been looking into this and, while poring over the specs wherever I could find them, I found one dealer that sold both the THUN9MMUCM and THUN9UCM13 that, though everything else seemed identical, listed one of them with a slightly longer (.25 in.) barrel length. I thought perhaps they were of different manufacture dates?
Was this listing just a typo/mistake? Is it absolutely certain that they are the identical gun simply sold with different magazines?
The other thing that seemed odd to me is that among those that sold both models (http://www.impactguns.com, http://www.budsgunshop.com, etc) most listed them for the same price or sometimes the 13 round model (THUN9UCM13) for even less than the THUN9MMUCM!
Would anyone know the reason behind this?
Thanks

Re: Does the Thunder 9 UC hold 10 or 13 rounds???
I just purchased a stainless UC9 on March 1st at a local gun show. I paid $320 "out the door" and it came with one 13 rd. mag. The following Monday, I went to a local gun dealer to purchase another mag. The gun dealer didn't have a 13 rd. mag but had either a 10 or 17 capacity. I went with the 10 rd, simply because the 17 rd. mag stuck out approximately 1 inch. Besides, if I get in a gunfight, I figure it will most likely be over before I can empty both mags anyway. Regarding an earlier reply to this post, my 13 rd. mag has a "pinky rest" curve on the bottom of the mag. The 10 rounder does not.

Re: Does the Thunder 9 UC hold 10 or 13 rounds???
I'm curious, Tark, about the 10 round mag w/o the pinky rest. Could you post a pic of both mags? Here's a pic of my 9UC with the different mags that I have, which are all factory mags. Notice that the UC mags have pinky rests, while the mags designed for the full size Thunder 9 don't.

Click on pic to enlarge.

Is it a genuine Bersa mag? My 10 rd mags have it, so did the 13 before I ruined it. (stepped on it at the range)
